Let's make sure Sel doesn't take his artistic talent for granite.

Completely unrelated to rocks and stones, here's a few screenshots of a very pre-alpha map I'm working on.

Good work.

Not for TF2, I assume?

But anyway, in lieu of that super-secret TC map of mine, I'm working on a side project. Those who have followed my previous CTF endeavors ought to know that I'm still trying to crack the problem of Engineer turtlefests in the intel rooms. This time I think I've got it:

yqmr.jpg

The ideal sentry spot is somewhere that can allow it to lord over the entire area. With a raised platform at the end, this would allow a sentry to cover the whole intel room, bypassing the short walls. But see that air duct up there? More specifically, the hole in the air duct? I've placed that juuuuuust out of range of a sentry, were it to be placed on top of the desk. Soldiers could fire rockets down, or even Snipers could lend a hand in taking out the Engineer camped behind his toys. I'm thinking I could place the entrance to this duct somewhere close to the opposing team's base, so while getting at the intelligence is a hefty chore, cleaning out the intel room isn't. This may also draw Snipers away from their battlements to help their team out in a way more meaningful than perpetual countersniping. (Look at that, two problems solved in one fell swoop. If I was any more efficient, I'd be German!)

The other option for engineers is to place their sentry forward in the middle of the room, where they could cover the duct opening, but the short walls really limit the sentry's effectiveness on ground-level enemies, enabling assaulting soldiers and demos to pop-n-shoot easily.

Yes, I know I said I was pretty much making this up on the fly, but, in the immortal words of Hannibal Smith,

Yeah, it's real hard to piece together how things are made on your own. If it were easy, this forum likely wouldn't exist, would it? Thanks for the tutorial, Sel :3

Not really, most of the information you need for setting up a tablet with photoshop, or whatever program you're going to use can be found on google, and as for actually learning it, more tutorials wouldn't really be too helpful, since a lot of what you need to know as a beginner, you need to learn on your own through just playing around, and studying other people's work.

I dunno, a friend sent me that tutorial, I haven't looked for any of his other stuff.

Other than the fact that I overused the Sharpen filter and I am a long way from nailing any type of depth, it's not bad considering I don't know anything about anything when it comes to art.

I could see it coming in handy for future tf2 textures.
