What happens now?

The artpass contest is finally over (phew, the last days of work were horrible), but some people still have a lot of questions. Personally, I'm still a bit curious to see how the map was intended to be by valve, since everyone here went for their ideas. Knowing that the map's name originally was caves, one would already be able to think how it would've looked like.
Another question that comes to my mind would be how long will it take for the maps to be judged by valve? Is it gonna take 1 month or more?

Feel free to ask your questions here, in hope for them to be answered. :)

I was curious from the start and emailed Valve asking about their ideas of the map or if they would release any concept/plans for the map they had, as well as why it was half detailed with props in the wall...

Hey Jack,

We often build visual ideas/cues into the map as we work to better get a feel for where the map will go visually. This is probably why it feels like there was already some detailing work done.

I still hold hopes that they will show us some ideas they had, I mean they must've had an idea for the pit...

Grace period ends on saturday (far too long imho) then I guess zpq will send all the maps to valve for them to start judging.

They may have already started though, you never know.

Booj hypthesised a volcano map due to the red lights at the bottom of the pit. It also makes sense what with the caves. Though it wouldn't be surprising if the red lights were simply hazard lights of some kind. I suppose we wont find out until/if Valve release progress images.

Volcano is a good guess. It does have that kind of structure if you look at it.

You can't expect everyone to accept your constant misbehaviour. There's certain rules and guidelines to follow and you're constantly ignoring any reasonable advice and instead claim to be offended by any post.
Your question was answered multiple times all over this place. And guess what, it was in the same exact thread that you missed with your artpass submission in the beginning.

The Artpass Contest: Upload Thread:

http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=15115

AFTER THE END OF THE CONTEST, THERE WILL BE A GRACE PERIOD OF ONE WEEK BEFORE THE ENTRIES ARE SENT TO VALVE IN ORDER FOR YOU TO FIX GAMEBREAKING BUGS (Say, you didn't pack in your custom skybox, or you forgot your capture point models, etc.). PM ME IF YOU WANT TO FIX SOMETHING, AND WE'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO.

Asking a question is not misbehaviour.

The whole point of forums like these is to ask questions that have already been answered somewhere else, many times before.

Every time some new level designer comes in and says "Help, I'm in trouble" and they post their compile log and there is some obvious problem, do people rip their head off and say they were "misbehaving" when the answer was already written in the Valve SDK?

I sure don't. I just point out an obvious problem and its solution.

As a matter of fact, asking a question like this to the community - even though you could look up the answer somewhere - is a way to try to break the ice. It's a way to try to be friendly. It allows conversation to be broached.

The whole issue with the submission was an honest mistake. This site is very confusing. I didn't even spot the contest entries thread for Artpass. It wasn't even where I assumed most threads were - you had to go to Map Database first. I was looking all the time in the Forums section. But, in principle, I did not cheat or take extra time. I was in early. Anyway, I made an argument on technicalities to ZQP and he allowed the entry.

But I guess, even though ZQP has allowed me that, some people in this community will never forget that. And because of that it makes me open season to be the "bad guy", and they get to dump on me.

In olden times many villages would often have a "sanctioned scapegoat" - that guy on the edge of town who was a loner - or he made a mistake some time or whatever - so the others though that it was then "okay" for everyone to dump their shit on him. It made them feel good about themselves to vent their bad feelings on someone. If you are looking to turn me into that guy in the "TF2 Maps Village", forget it. I'll just quit all this TF2 mapping stuff.

Then you'll have won nothing, but you'll have lost a potential friend and a good mapper.

So you just let me know.

I think the problem is that you post your issues in threads with entirely different topic rather than making a new thread or simply PM:ing an admin. Also, showing no signs of listening or considering that the people hating on you might actually have gotten something right doesnt make you more popular.

On topic: I really want a new contest started up soon! I havent entered any of the three last contests because I haven't really liked the concepts of the gamemodes. A/D ctf turned out to be surprisingly fun, but I've never liked PLR even though some people managed to make decent maps for it. Competitive CTF was a mistake since they started playing ctf_2fort in season 1, and should've remained buried somewhere deep in the archives of ETF2L. The last contest was an interesting concept and I love what some people have done with the base artpass map, but I have to say they could've made a more inspiring layout - I can see why they scrapped it in the first place.

What I want now is either a contest with a set gamemode that's been proved to work great (like push cp, gravelpit A/D, single/mulitstage PL (I know that's been done), or perhaps even TC????) or an open contest where you can make any gamemode you like but maybe get a set theme to work with or something. I liked the idea of a layout contest where a few of the best would go on to an artpass contest, then all of us could get to do what we like the most.

I wouldn't mind another detailing mini-contest :p....like of a mid-point of a 5-cp or something.

Asking a question is not misbehaviour.

I'd just like to point out that you had to use the title feature for your post. That effectively gives the thread a new title (it doesn't on this forum, but on some forums it actually does re-title the whole thread).

When you have to do that it's supposed to clue you into the fact that you need a new thread.

I wouldn't mind another detailing mini-contest. Maybe using the space models when they're released? Or another control point contest but something like a finale for a payload or CP?

Or a prefab contest, so that w/e we make would more likely end up being used because it would be more general.
