What do you think of stealing others work?

You can't say you're doin g a map, or you are mapping, when you are only taking a huge ammount of effort of another person/people and changing 4 things. Even he changed the name.

He had to change the name, someone else already did pl_dustbowl

Yeah I remember that guy, but at least he gave total credit to Valve.

Makes me want to have a seizure and soil my self simultan---

Nevermind.

And most people nailed my thoughts, taking months of work and no credit/premission/etc is just wrong.

However, I lol'd at the circled addition of a single barrel in the 6th pick. Talk about massive changes

Look at the map. He's actually changed quite a lot. That particular page refered to a test update (hence the name)

but at least [The pl_dustbowl author] gave total credit to Valve.

Hey You gave full credit where it was due in the main release page for the map

He had to change the name, someone else already did pl_dustbowl

Thanks for knowing what you're talking about unlike the others in this thread :)

And furthermore: if I'm not mistaken, Valve condone this practice.

Not sure what you're trying to prove Nalidor, but I've played the map before this latest version and I'm comparing the differences between the two.
If you'd like me to go into a point-by-point of each change, well I doubt any of us have the attention span for that. Try to see some humor in my comment- look at the picture and how bizarre it is for a single barrel to be placed in a rather insignificant location, and then circled for emphasis.

I wouldn't call it stealing. But I don't like it.

But many people on these forums here could of changed dustbowl to a payload version, and probably done a better job.
Editing a map is much much easier then creating a map from scratch.

And now pl_dustbowl and pl_dbheight get much more playtime then the other custom map payload maps which required much more work to make.

However to be fair, the maker of pl_dbheight did a lot more work then the maker of pl_dustbowl

That isnt true Spacemonkey. The author of PL_dustbowl had to make that messy decompiled valve dustbowl map work correctly. The author of PL_dbheights then just decompiled pl_dustbowl and changed things around.

Idk, in my opinion, the internet wasn't made with the intent of it being fair. In the end, if people have a true problem with it, then they simply won't play the map and move to a different server. For me, as long as the map is fun and the people around me are having a blast, then whose really being hurt by it.

If someone has an outstanding problem with it then they should report the map to Valve and have them handle it with the proper legal action. I have a sneaking feeling though that they wouldn't care enough anyway.

Didn't say it was any good though, All the decompiled dustbowls I've seen have horrible artifacts and nothing looks right, the colours are off there are large areas of black and they are all just a mess.

If its a fun map or not it doesn't matter its a stupid idea to do it because the end result just isn't good.

Map is just the same with some changed things. Valve guys(and mappers in general) take months for doing a map, why would anyone take that work and compile it againg with minor changed stuff?

Why don't people learn to make a layout and do their own work? What I mean is I think TF2 is going to have a lot of maps like that ones on CS 1.6 (cs_assault_2002, cs_assault_2003, cs_assault_2004, cs_assault_pieceofcake, cs_assault_(yournamehere), etc etc), which I hate. Some real mappers made maps like de_corsica, cs_costabrava, de_alps, etc which are masterpieces made from scratch, but nobody used to play that maps, they rather prefer to play de_dust2 all day, or its modifications aka de_dust2_200X.

People just don't have the patient to map, if you don't then don't map. (i'm not refering to you).

Lolz, my first map was an assault edit : / Was fun but not something I'm entirely proud of

My first map was an aztec version of aim_map, I made it from scratch but it was still a copy. I'm not proud of it too.
