Things We Don't Like About TF2

Class updates were the best part of TF2! Waiting to see what new items you were getting, achievement farming with friends to get them as quickly as possible, and then playing a class that counters the update until people calm down.

Also the weapons were less stupid I guess.

Crafting was fine before trading was implemented, but now that it is the only worthwhile thing to craft is metal.

Are you being ironic? Sure the weapons were a cool novelty, but most of them spoiled the balance of the game. Case in point: the second needle gun that stole health from enemies turned the medic into more of a combat orientated class. That's cool for medics but it meant that Scouts were fairly useless against them, and it moved the class away from the original point. Achievement farming sucked too, and it was annoying to go on a server and find half the players playing one class.

Players who'll vote a custom map to be the next map in the cycle, but won't actually take the 30 seconds to let it finish downloading.

I think most of the problems I have with TF2 aren't really Valve's fault. They include:

- Jerk players, griefers, idiots, and anyone who takes the game too seriously to have fun.
- Servers that lie about their player count.
- Servers that use Unreal Tournament sounds.
- Servers that are set to Instant Respawn.

But there are some things that ARE Valve's fault:

- The hats have tampered with what I thought were excellent character designs.
- Too many weapons have taken away from the beautiful simplicity of the game. I liked the first round of updates for the classes because it gave us options, but now it's hard to keep track of all of them.
- No official map has ever been as fun for me as Dustbowl. I'd like more maps like that.
- I would have preferred that Valve kept us playing simply by adding maps and gameplay modes, not all these purchasable weapons and hats.
- I'd sure love to see videos for the Medic and Pyro, but I'm beginning to think they'll never come.

I'm not trying to sound whiny, because it's still a good game. But I've often wondered if a point would come where they should just make Team Fortress 3 instead of mangling TF2. TF2 has been such a long, gradual update that I don't think they could make a TF3 for a long time.

Unlocks that reward the player for doing bad and/or making poor descisions (I can already think of 4 items)

Oh and, anything involving randomness. This game almost plays by itself.

Ha, maybe they should just rename the game "Team Fortress 3" in everyone's libraries and add a new "Team Fortress 2" to their libraries that's just the same game minus the hats and community/promotional weapons.

You know, I'd be quite interested in that. I like a lot of the updates, but part of me wants to be able to enjoy TF2 the way it used to be.

I remember calling TF2 my favorite game. I think I did that, and I really meant it, until somewhere around the War update, I think. For me, it went downhill from there. I realized Valve had become so bad at both visual design and balance, playing TF2 just made me sad. So did the next hat update, when the amount of hats really got out of hand. But I kept playing and mapping, because it wasn't honestly that bad, and I was sure they would get back on track soon. Trading, though, made it pretty much impossible to get back on that good old track.

...You know, the usual story.

I guess it's the nostalgia that gives me this feeling, or rather the fact that I can never relive those nostalgic moments properly. It's almost as if Super Mario 64 suddenly ceased to exist.

EDIT: I still think TF2 is an ok game, at least in the moments when I can feel the presence of the core gameplay. It still has its moments.

TF2 is still my favourite FPS, some of the new maps really uphold it for me (im just a massive payload fan tbh). Every update perked more interest in the game for me but the medic update and the spy/sniper update are the only ones I can't complain about in hindsight. Everything else is just too easy to complain about now: trading distracts players from actually playing, overpowered or underpowered, too much of a tangent from the original game, boring gamemodes etc and paying money for an advantage is on a whole new level.

I dislike:

- Hats
- Archievements
- Orange maps
- People that take this game waaaaaaaay too serious and start whining over the voice chat on non-clan servers
- The custom 'm-m-m-monsterkill' and 'c-c-c-combobreaker' crap servers

...and most of all...

- The lack of green & yellow teams.

I like the game,It's my fav. FPS to date, and i even think it ranks above reach and black ops. But some of the weapons aren't balenced and can be annoying. Ex: Shortstop with krit-a cola. And some of the other weapons are just useless. Ex: Sandman and the new sandvich for the heavy. But again that's my opinion on it. If you dont like it i dont care :3

I've actually converted to Sandman, thanks to TF2 Beta. The health nerf is negligible, but the stun ball is hilariously effective when used properly.

It also made me wonder why the hell they can't finally put the Spy's tranquilizer into the game, given that it would essentially be a stungun.

They don't like any version of the Sandman they have put into the game. The Scout's weapons were an experiment in listening to SPUF, which failed miserably. The Tranquilizer is not in the game for that reason.

Promo Items: I don't want to have to buy a new, usually expensive, game for a slightly cooler looking stock weapon or a hat/misc.

Any situation as a Spy when I join a game, pick Spy, and find 1 or more Bacburner Pyros because there was already a Spy before i joined and that got the enemy team all paranoid.

People who spend more time trading than playing, I'm not bashing on trading itself, but when I join Dustbowl and find 3 people tanking Sentries nowhere near the defensive lines whilst spamming trade messages until someone either trades them, or they leave, I generally just want to knock some sense into them rather forcefully.

The map 2Fort, Orange maps and Custom maps with about as much thought in them as me trying to type by smashing my head against the keyboard. 2Fort because it is FAR too stalemate prone and generally boring thanks to it's repetitive nature, Orange maps because they are pretty much baby's first TF2 map and they also fall into the last category, which is pretty self explanatory I hope.

I have a fix for all of this, under server options, VALVe should add a button that toggles Hats, and a button that toggles unlockable/promo weapons, a secondary option under the weapon toggle being only class updates along with base weapons. What do you guys think?

That doesn't fix a lot of my problems :p but anyway, I think if that would ever be seriously considered, it would need to include an option to disable trading first and foremost, second, it would be an abosulte MUST for these options to be apparent long before you join the server.

I appreciate others don't like hats and unlockable weapons as much as I do but if I join a server, but I'm curious as to why everyone seems to hate hats, in my playing history I have seen 2 cases, one where the person legitimately does not like hats, period, and wants the default look for his classes, and one where the person in question hates hats because he has none.

I am accusing none of the people here to be either of these kind of people but I would like to know what their views on the matter is.
