Whole point of what? Fucking synthetic discrimination?! Everything should free for everyone at the time of purchase, no fucking items grind 'n' selling. I still remember TF2 without achievement servers or idle servers, where people actually played the game for fun.

I agree with KarmaPolice.

There are multiple ways to get the items, other than buying.
Hats are supposed to be uncommon. If they were $2 you could buy all of them. There'd be no thrill in getting them. if you REALLY BADLY want a hat, you can trade for it, craft it, or buy it for a fair price.

No one wants hats to become super common. The price does it. if you don't like the price, don't buy it. I know I'm not going to. I'm going to wait to craft them or find them, like I have for the past year.

You're all complaining because you have to pay lots of money to get the hats. You've managed to not buy hats for a year, why should you now, if you can't pay? The hats arn't giving anyone an unfair advantage. If they want to fork out $20 for a cosmetic goodie, then let them.

So no. I won't be signing the petition. Unless it's a petition to remove the naming. The price is right, it's how it should stay. I never particuarly wanted this to happen, for trading to come in or anything. but it's here now. Valve implimented it in the right way, so stop your bitchin, unless you want everyone to go running around with the same hat. It'd be like the halo's all over again. It's no fun to find it, everyone already has it.

I understand the argument about hats perfectly fine, and I agree with you people that there is no reason to lower their prices.

But what about weapons? Why should I pay the price of an indie game for one of the new ones? Really, 5€? Don't tell me it's so the creator can get a share, because I'm pretty sure you can get a share of 1€ too. And last I checked, there's no reason that unlockable items should be rare, so the hat logic doesn't work.

I agree with Rexy, I kind of think this thread is a bit pointless.

I don't understand what's wrong with high hat prices, because if they were low everyone would buy them, and they would become much more of a commonality then they are now. I even think that $5 is a great deal for hats compared to how much people actually want them, even though I think it's pretty immature to buy yourself a hat or content you would normally get for free.

As for the anger, I would try to put it in this frame of reference. This add on to the game is quite simply additive. What that means is that you can completely ignore it and continue with your business, unlike weapon modifications which will be there whether you like them or not. So, simply put, ignore the store, it's over priced and the satisfaction isn't anything close to what you would have if you found or crafted the hat yourself.

If the Valve marketers want to make money off of a TF2 store my personal opinion would be to sell weapons for really cheap, under 50 cents, and not sell hat's at all. That or have a monthly hat that will go on sale for $15-20. This isn't a major source of revenue for modelers imo, I don't see why the weapon prices should be so expensive.

EDIT: @FaTony, please stop raging at Valve, it wasn't them collectively who made the decision, and it certainly wasn't in mean spirit. This isn't SPUF, come on.

Weapons can be found/crafted easy enough anyway, I don't see a reason to buy them at all. Unless you want the packs.

The item drop and crafting systems are Valve's way of rewarding players for playing the game. Valve wants to encourage gameplay, so the price is prohibitively high to get you to try and craft the item or get a drop rather than skip straight to having the weapon. It's also why you can't trade or craft purchased items, so that found or crafted items have more value.

1. http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/30/i...selling-team-fortress-2-items-for-real-money/

2. All gameplay-affecting items can be obtained for free

3. The prices are fine.

4. Valve uses TF2 as a testing platform. They're testing us. This isn't news. I would expect price adjustments in the future as I see Valve as currently testing what bounds there are in selling content.

5. Older items have lower prices. Wait.

"WOW, anyone who buys anything is a sucker supporting the death of Valve. Please lower the prices, I want to be a sucker too!"

get over it, hats are highly priced to keep the rarity. BUT I CANT PLAY TF2 KNOWING THAT HATS ARE STILL RARE

The weapons would be of no value if you could pay $5 and have them all. The same applies to hats.

Edit: Also, I have 8/12 of the Polycount weapons without paying a penny. (I did just buy the GRUs though, great deal)

Ya know, I bet they either have Steam Store Sales that take like 50% off an item for a weekend.

OR

They say "Hey if you buy this new Indy Game, you can get one of our bundles free!"

I don't think any of its a bad thing. I wouldn't care about hats if everyone could get them instantly. The whole rush of finding a hat randomly is nice (for me anyway).

For god sakes. I think, when Im going to buy an expensive hat or something. Im paying for all work of the tf2. NOT FOR THE DAMN LITTLE HAT OR WEAPON. Im respecting VALVe and their work. Im paying for VALVe, not to get the fucking item. Anyways. If the prices would be low I would just buy more items. I have been planned to spend 20€ for items. Because I think tf2 is more worth than 20€ when I bought it from steam. I think its worth OVER NINETHOUSAAAAND €. So, stop whining about the prices. Get over it.

I wonder if I could create something that tracks and graphs the prices (or rather, future changes in price) from the store. Hmmmmmm.

But whats the point if there is no profit incentive?

I guess you could buy one of the packs and then sell off the parts. But I don't really know if it would be worth the hassle.

X user spends all day idling and puts the items he drops up on eBay or somewhere else for less than store prices. He spent nothing to get the items and thus makes 100% profit.

You can't sell off the parts. Most things from the store on non-tradeable and non-craftable.

For actually good reasons when it comes to scams/money-laundering/"gold-farming", I might add.

The only thing that *really* bothers me is that I'm playing with the Scout's new items and not getting a bonus because I won't shell out £12 for a hat that does nothing. There's no way you can rationalise it because it's wrong on so many levels.
