Is there any way to set players on fire on contact with [insert entity/trigger/whatever here]?
No, currently broken. Not possible.
Well there goes my ctf_hell idea.
Well, you could throw in some lava dicplacement and just throw a hurt brush on it. I'm sure Hell has lava.........lol. Besides, with the Pyro update, there is plenty on fire these days.
But being cast into a sea of fire without burning alive just doesn't have that.... hell theme to it.
you probably wouldn't want a "sea of fire" especially for a multiplayer game. I can see your concept, i'm not sure you actually mean a sea of fire or are just making a point, but it would be a load on the server and client having tons of fire entities animating away.
The map vman_road_less_travelled sets players on fire when you walk through the fire. It's a race map that has obstacles, and fire is one of them. Pretty ingenious use of entities and special effects. Maybe you can hunt Vman down and ask him how he did it ^_^
This intrigues me. I'll look into it for everyone.
In the meantime, I have a custom lava texture you might want to check out, in the material section.
what about the env_fire? i have used it to set myself on fire but for some reason it does not render. hmmm.
Alright I checked out the map.
He uses a trigger_hurt with burn or slowburn properties to deal the damage.
Graphically he uses env_steam, env_fire and env_firesource.
When you are damaged, somehow a custom screen overlay is applied to your screen that emulates the fire effect. It is very low resolution though, and your body isn't actually on fire. Still not sure how he does this. Also, the DPS does not last outside of the source.
So, no "real" fire but a way to fake it exists.
I guess I shouldn't have called it a "Sea of fire," more like the moat seperating the two bases in 2Fort. My idea was something similar (relatively small forts connected by a bridge)
After all, if playing 2Fort for all eternity isn't hell, I don't want to know what is.
