    pl_roaring_flame - A Frontline Payload Map

Stately. Dignified. Divine. An awe-inspiring testament to the blessings of creation. This is what one could call the Roaring Flame Plateaus of the Badlands before the white man showed up. After decades of strip mining for gravel and other precious minerals, the Roaring Flame Plateaus became a ruined shadow of their former majesty. Things changed in 1933, when businessman Blutarch Mann gazed upon a photo of this near corpse of nature and cried. He telephoned the miners and with tears streaming down his face, said to them "you call that sodomizing the environment!? Let me show you how it's done!" Mr. Mann had all the miners killed, seized and expanded their gravel pits, and built a bomb factory atop one of the highest plateaus, dumping toxic waste and mutagens on the desert below. Today, amidst the ongoing mercenary war between the RED and BLU Corporations, the Roaring Flame Plateaus remain a heavenly hellhole, which Mr. Mann still refuses to donate for restoration. Because no one screws with Blutarch Mann. Ever.

-A Plaque Commemorating the History of the Roaring Flame Plateaus, circa 1968.

I've been away for a year dealing with several important matters. Now I am finally back. I had previously made a payload map called Siege, the premise of which was BLU trying to take back their own facility from RED occupiers. Unfortunately, there were a lot of problems with this premise, especially in terms of which colors and materials should be used.

I gave up on map making for a while, then spent the last four or five months working on Roaring Flame as a means of relaxation. When I began, I said I was going to make this map "Siege done right," it starts out in a BLU factory complex and ends in the desert, allowing the pallet to change accordingly the closer the bomb gets to RED's final spawn.

However, once I learned of the Frontline project, I realized I had the opportunity to actually contribute to something for once. At present, there isn't that much Frontline stuff in there, this being an Alpha and all. However, I hope to include more in later updates. If you ave any feedback, suggestions, or found any bugs, please let me know right away.

Added mostly cosmetic changes, though I altered the sizes of various catwalks for fear that if I didn't, they may prove too frustrating to navigate.

Altered the location one or two of the "sniper blockers" in the first area to allow for easier movement.

Added new signs to better direct players to objectives.

Hey, you should really repack your map before uploading it. It'll resize the BSP to about the size of the ZIP file (~29mb) and will make it easier for server owners (and everyone downloading it from the server.)

To repack your map, create a text file inside your map folder, and c+p this text into it:
    Code:
    "..\..\bin\bspzip" -repack -compress %1
    @pause
Now, rename it to "repackme.bat" or similar and drag+drop your map on top of it. This should open a command prompt. It'll take a few minutes, especially for a map of that size, but afterwards the BSP will be way smaller.

Zipping it afterwards won't do anything, so you can just upload the BSP.

Thank you for this, though I thought I already re-packed it.

Well, I did as you asked, but whenever I drag the map on top of the text file, nothing happens. In fact, the text file doesn't even highlight.

You have to rename it to "[SOMETHING].bat", not .txt. You might have to change your Windows Explorer to show known file extensions to be able to change file type.

honestly the gameplay, is pretty good.
I don't understand the frontline theme though, I think a standard dustbowl theme would look better with the map geography.

Temporarily removed many props while the map is still in alpha for the sake of performance.

Temporarily removed many custom assets for the same reason.

Temporarily removed several skybox assets for the same reason.

Replaced the power four displacement hill in the middle of the second area with a power three displacement hill of roughly similar size and shape.

Altered some of the catwalks in the first area to allow for greater mobility for both teams.

Replaced the crates in the area approaching the second checkpoint with a wooden wall to allow for greater ease of movement.

Added a roll forward zone to one of the two ramps near the final terminus.

Added more space to the flank on the final checkpoint to allow for better maneuvers.

    Messed around with the skybox.
