Since there was a lot of common interest in an Arctic theme pack I decided to take the bull by the horns and start organising this myself.

For this pack we are hoping to create a myriad of new models, textures and particles (and maybe even more!) for mappers to use in snowy/arctic settings.

Content we need:

(the above already exist but there's like only one version of each and they suck)

Q: Can I submit things in this thread?
A: No. This thread is for joining the pack, discussion, sharing of ideas and WIP content. Closer to the deadline for content I will make a submission thread so keep watching this thread!

Q: What is the deadline?
A: To be decided once the pack is further along the line.

Q: Can I make [x]?
A: As long as it fits the theme, I'd say go for it, but don't go too overboard.

Q: Can I release things I've made for the pack before the pack is compiled?
A: You can but I would prefer you didn't.

Q: What filepath should I use?
A:
For models use: models/props_arctic
For materials use: materials/arctic
For particles use: particles/
For sounds use: sounds/arctic

I will update this section as more questions are asked/need answering.

Ok, The_Nightwalker's evil things to add:

-(red/blu) frozen sniper as an EOTL Reference

-icy train

-snowy tracks.

-maybe add reflective ice?

-frozen Archimedes

-frozen/winter trees

- a glacier brush (the type of thing like the begining of pl_crash_72)

-a snow version of the spire from badlands

-Ice fishing shacks

There may not be such a thing as trees in the arctic (technically... right?) but I really think we should try to get some more foliage. Things like pines and birch trees, maybe some tundra bushes and stuff too.

Maybe also more stuff for detailing log cabins or something. Like fireplaces, hunting trophies, cozy furniture. I'm sure TF2 has some of those things already, but I'm too lazy to check.

Edit: I might try texturing or modeling something but my experience with those things is pretty limited. I suppose don't sign me up as a contributor yet, but I will try to make a try!

Question:
I have a skybox that will be improved later, but I'd like it to be in the pack so it can be used ASAP. (It's complete, just with some minor errors, so it really will make hardly any difference in normal play anyway)
Can I submit the current skybox now, and have an improved version submitted later?

You don't have to submit anything until the (to be announced) deadline.

I did some clear ice things. Needs some work though. Right now it requires 2 brushes on top of each other because the body of water underneath it can't be made solid (yet, if people know how to do that pls tell me. I'd like to use one brush instead of 2).

Aside from the ice spikes, I'm also working on reskinning the quicklime sacks to bags of rock salt. I can also make skyboxes and sign overlays once I scrape up some ideas.

In the meantime, I'll repost this here just to keep everything together - they currently use a cliff rock detail texture and a specular map that makes the blue part reflective. I also want to experiment with translucency using $translucent and/or $alphatest, assuming those work with models.

With my 200th post on TF2Maps.net, I've signed up for the Arctic Theme Pack. :)

In all seriousness, best way to contact me if you need anything is tf2maps.net or the chatroom during AUS hours, I get a lot of steam bot scam requests, so it makes that method harder.

For the signs, I was going for something spytech, and for the graffiti, I'll certainly make some more relevant / better looking stuff. Don't think those things are the best I can do! ;)

Hey. Does anyone know if Acegikmo is still alive and how to get ahold of him? I'd love to get all his textures and models from Glacier into this; it'd save us some work.

I would say talk to Mangy, but it appears as if his steam and all associated contacts has gone... well... missing.
