The Demoman looks really well made.

TFC's Demoman (old model) essentially is TF2's, except he's white. Still has a wool cap and an eye patch though. I can only assume that they are one-and-the-same, and the intense exposure to HDR caused the fellow to acquire a serious tan.

Clever... but, I don't know. Seems impracticable. I never really got why people want to download and use all these skins, especially if other player's aren't going to see it. It's like sven coop... everyone I see in a server is the generic hazardous suit guy because they all have custom skins that nobody else can see.

I strongly disagree! The original models were done in such a way where you couldn't tell they were bad. The new ones, being more detailed, show how had the GLDSRC engine actually was with the original models.

This confuses me... are you saying that by saying these are worse compared to the original unmodded skins? Or are they worse just in general...

Worse compared to the originals. As in, for a low-poly low-res model from a decade ago, they're bad.

However, now that I see the pictures he added to the thread I realize why. These weren't for/like TFC... I remember seeing them as the "ultimate low poly" models for really bad computers or for maximum framerate.
