How to make an animated texture?

How can I make a animated texture, Its probably very simple but i'm just dum.

it will vastly depend on the animation you want to achieve but it is usually done through material proxies.

Well, I wanted to make an animated texture for a background and some other texture for a map

Personally I suggest you use a toggle able texture where you can have the map's logic play certain frames on command instead of having the looping gif texture you just loop forever from beginning to end with no transition between them
