Well, I looked at the two numbers in the HTML comments on the wrench-blog page.

Best association I can come up with is that the second number divided by the first yields a random-looking result that averages near 0.50...

Also, the average time-between-wrench-finds (aside from the bulk stuff) seems to be about 93 minutes, so with 52 left, that'll mean ~80 hours from now before #100 is hit.

I have crafted many items now which I didn't had duplicate :( . Now I am just a man with lots of scrap metal and only the good unlocks + couple hats... (But I can craft a hat soon :))

I smelted nearly my entire backpack trying to get a golden wrench, leaving me a broken man. Henceforth all my drops will go towards rebuilding, until I hunt down and impale every wrench owner and set them up for display outside Damascus.

This reminds me a lot of Trotsky's permanent revolution. Even out the wealth, and in such a nifty way that the victims have only themselves to blame.

Crafted most of the rest of my reserved-for-crafting stuff, but no wrench. I crafted for what I was going for otherwise anyway though, soooo ...

I'm not gonna hate on people who get the wrenches. It's like the Mac earbuds - just a cosmetic thing that ultimately means nothing and gets forgotten. It'd be fun to have, yes, but it's not worth stressing over. ;)

Plus if one wants to play with it bad enough, it's possible to make a version for local-server use, as the early videos showed.

Denial is the first stage of acceptance. I can feel the anger welling inside you.
We will always be reminded when we come across a golden corpse ingame.

btw, #48 just dropped a few moments ago on XA 24/7 2FORT

Going by the stats here http://tf2stats.net/wrenches , assuming that it's completely random and not tied to anything in-game, then the odds of crafting it are roughly 1 in 40000. (That is, out of the last 1,000,000 or so items, 23 of them are golden wrenches.) So even if you craft 40 items you only have a 1 in 1000 chance of getting one. So it's really not worth crafting away all your items for such a remote possibility.

That message comes globally, it doesn't mean someone on your server got it. But I cannot see statistics so I cannot say either he wasn't on that server either.

Getting closer to wrench #69 :D

And also, from SPUF regarding f00l being on everyones wanted list:

I don't suppose someone could upload d_images_v2.vtf somewhere? Now I want to look at it in a hex editor but I'm at work.

IMO if anyone was able to decompile code to figure out the drops, Valve should apologize and re-do the whole goddamn thing.

Unlike, for example, the code that makes crit-hacks possible, I can think of no legitimate reason for Valve to design the wrench-drop system such that it could be exploited that way. Not one! There is zero reason for the necessary logic to be available to any client, or to be so badly-seeded that it would be predictable.

If Valve put in deliberate hints somewhere... I'm raging just thinking about it.

And also, from SPUF regarding f00l being on everyones wanted list:
Yeah, and casinos have to let you bring in card-counters...
