I've been busy with school but I just thought of an interesting idea... a 2-part contest, or maybe more...
Part 1
Devtexture Contest, Maps are to remain in dev textures, and are judged by balance, originality in layout, and how fun they are to play.
Part 2
Thematic Contest, The winning dev textured map from Part 1 is released for participants to individually detail. Gameplay cannot be deviated, only minor adjustments to the level are allowed in order to fit the theme the mapper chooses, but cannot be drastic enough as to change balance or strategy (ie replacing devtexture ramps with model ones can and should be done, but moving the ramp to the other side of the room would not). Maps are judged based on textures, lighting, prop placement, visual interest, and possibly fitting into the TF2 theme.
Obviously winners of part 1 would need to allow their vmf to be used in part 2, after part two is finished, both mappers are given final credit for the part they did on the map.
Thought this might be interesting as it splits the level design up more like it would be done in a studio, where the person designing layout is likely not the one (or the only one) who does the detail work on it. Only problem with it is that you end up with many versions of the same map at the end, and those who don't win, while they got "practice" might feel like they wasted their time, or might try to compete with the winner on fpsbanana or w/e...
