Another assignment! At the same time as #3! This one is very similar but focuses on another kind of asset creation, textures/materials. Having the ability to create unique and new textures for your map is a very easy way to make it feel special and new. In some cases simple recolor jobs are enough to spark new life in boring stock textures. But sadly it's a skill that it's not as widespread as you'd think. Take this opportunity to learn how to create your own special textures.
To participate in this assignment, all you need to do is create a texture for TF2 (or more, up to a maximum of 5 unique materials). Create a sign, or make new wooden walls, try your hand at a completely self-made grass texture! All your submitted textures should all be usable right out of the box (that means that only vmt and vtf files are supposed to be submitted. jpg, tga, png and all other various formats should stay at home).
At the end of this assignment, all the submitted textures will be available for public download.
Ask questions, both in our steamchat and on the forums if you need help! I'm sure people have tips and tricks to share too.
- A week to complete the task. 168 hours to be exact[Link to countdown clock] [List of local times that correspond to 21:00pm UTC]
UTC: 21:00 pm (Saturday 6th)
BST/UK: 22:00 pm (Saturday 6th)
CEST: 23:00 pm (Saturday 6th)
EST: 17:00 pm (Saturday 6th)
Central: 16:00 pm (Saturday 6th)
PST: 14:00 pm (Saturday 6th) - No collaborations
- Maximum of 5 materials/textures. This limit only applies to vmt files. You can have as many vtf files as you like.
No model texturesNo 2D Skybox textures - Texture size is limited to a maximum of 1024x1024 pixels.
- Texture size minimum is 32x32 pixels.
- Each texture in your pack may have it's own individual theme. Likewise you can have all the textures in your pack be of the same theme if you so please.
- Your textures need to be in a folder of your choosing inside "tf/materials/". The vmt and vtf files may not be placed straight in the materials folder.
How to submit your work:
- Put your textures in a archive (zip, rar, 7z).
- No screenshot is required, I will handle this myself.
- Send me (Ravidge) a forum PM with a link to your archive. If you feel like it, put "AF #4 submission" in the PM title, would make it much easier for me.
A voting thread will be opened once I've gone through the entries.
