Whark if you need eyes on what you have so far to check for visual glitches and stuff... all you have to do is ask us (the followers of your thread, that is). I would be more than happy to scan for errors and maybe suggest some spots that could use overlays, supports, etc.

In that last batch of screenshots especially, the undersides of all the overhanging roofs looked extremely bare. Some wooden supports or light fixtures or anything to cut down on the stark look of those buildings would be great. I would also suggest you find a paint overlay you like and make at least a few of the walls kinda graffiti/painted looking--just to add interest.

Good luck finishing Whark!

Yea thanks for the crit. I may try to have a build available tomorrow for that. I'm so pressed just to get finished at this point with having to work overtime at work that is going to be a rough ride!

That striped arch is really bothering me. Its too close to the wall and its alone. Pull it out to the length of the ledge and try to fit three in there, or pad two.

Yea I currently have two jammed in there. My build crashed this morning at 4 am and I just gave and got a nap before work. Else you could see the result of two. Maybe I can have that up tonight. Thanks.

In the first screen, I've gotta ask... what exactly is that open area? If it's a street or just a walking path you should put an overlay to show the track, otherwise you should come up with some foliage or clutter of some kind to give that area a little interest.

In the second screen, might I suggest you put a huge poster on that bare wall?

The third screen definitely looks better, but you could probably halve the number of logs supporting that roof.

The gray metal in the last screen is a little off-putting... not that you need more wood, but what exactly is that thing?

I haven't worked on the ground yet. I'll take your direction there and add some tracks.

That grey thing is bothersome. Perhaps it should be wood.

Make it wood. It contrasts really well with the white walls and fits the theme. Remember, what seems like too much to you might be just right to us. We're not going to see the map from your perspective!

Seconding whoever it was that said you could get away with about every other log. I'd say either do that, or put in some kind of angled support. The balcony looks big and heavy, and having it supported by only parallel beams strikes me as a little unlikely.

Which is, admittedly, falling apart these days. But still, it lasted quite a while.

Well, if there's one thing that comes to mind about the TF2 fan community, it's their passion for unique American architecture of the 20th century. I'm sure they would appreciate the nod to Wright, if not just to show up those Halo fans with their vast appreciation for Flemish Renaissance miniature painting.

It's certainly not logical that a structure like that would last as long as structures in Cairo but its not logical that people run around shooting healing guns or having hands the size of basketballs either ;)

True, that style doesn't work in a middle east environment, but the logs are reasonable (either as many as there are, or half as many would both be fine).

I'm not totally sure where this is going to go, but I made a paint decal for the side of the building. Depending on where it ends up, I might change the color of the paint or fade it out some more. It's a transparent decal, as you can see from the alpha map, but I threw some concrete behind it for visuals. It seems like a good idea to have a couple extra things like this that can be used as landmarks for the player.

I might add some more text too, and I'm debating on whether to have a border around it, or just let it fade out like that.

Where is the Whark?

So once upon a time there was guy called Whark, he was good mapper and he loved middle east theme. So he decided to make TF2 theme with this girl, very talented one may i add, and decided to win artpass contest. At start he had only one silly picture with awful textures. He wasn't happy with that, no no, he had to do something much more stunning and better so he asked Alia if she could whip some models for him. Days passed, artpasses became more awesome, and then whark came back with Alia's models going "sup bitches!" and showed us awesome map.

So, he detailed it more and at one point the professional detailer club got worried, it leader MangyCarface decided that they need get rid of Whark so they would win the contest. While whark was making smoking pits at C and tuning up his marketplaces at B, had YM send his minions the way. They hunt down all Whark friends and loved ones and slowly got information where Whark was hiding. So while this all was happening Whark was detailing A and blue spawn.
Alia was putting hard work onto models and she was really happy to see whark make one of the best entries in the artpass contest. But the day came everyone was afraid of came. YM minions (I shall call them Rexy v2.0 now) and took whark into Mangy's secret hideout behind TF2Maps logo. Mangy was very angry and look at whark.
Magny said: "Who is this guy, with 56 posts on my goddamned forums making better artpasses than we can?"
So he told Rexy 2.0's take him away, to the secret prison in Boojum Snark's cellar.
So had Magny with help of others success at his evil plan, now was whark stuck in jail, waiting for the day where world shall hear words "Artpass_mangy wins"

This is true story!
