I think the sapper looks like some ancient medallion. And since you have some spytech in there, it doesn't mix together very good. I think its because its shaped like a medallion (round) and those 'legs' sticking out like that, that makes it look out of place.

Like Terr said on [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showpost.php?p=115703&postcount=310"]page 32[/ame], the legs look to organic and I think both problems here can be fixed by just doing something else with them. Maybe remove them and just have small spikes sticking out? Im not sure, but right now, it seems out of place.

Just my toughts. Looks great otherwise tho, both map and models. :)

I've run around alone and taken some pics:

http://img198.imageshack.us/i/ctfvectorb20001.jpg/
Still needs clipping.

http://img196.imageshack.us/i/ctfvectorb20002.jpg/
This door doesn't open now when the first point is captured?

http://img198.imageshack.us/i/ctfvectorb20003.jpg/
Room without doors.

1. O_O How is that possible. Silly valve. I'll look into for Beta 2. I'm also thinking of clipping the ledge right above blue spawn.

2. Not anymore. I think it's better this way, it keeps red from breaking past blue too easily.

3. You're not supposed to see that! :p

Yeah, but turning off the paper trail would also mean turning off the glow and the blue strip. IMO, these are very important in identifying the intel carrier in the midst of battle.

I've thought about this, and I'll be trying to parent the particles manually for Beta 3.

I think the sapper model looks nice too, I love the body. However, I think the legs should have only one joint or a "knee" or whatever you'd call it. It would make it look more mechanical and less round, especially if they were to point down towards the underside of the sapper-thingy.

I'm sure this has been commented before, but I'm slightly lost as to why this game mode is even classified as CTF.

A) You're not taking something away from the enemy back to your base...indicative of essentially every video-game and real-life CTF match in existence (how many capture the flag games have you played as a kid where you run your own flags into the other team's base?)
B) Only one team is accomplishing the objective of carrying something
C) Much more fast-paced than Valve's CTF design
D) Especially in this new version...it isn't even intelligence that's being carried.

as_vector (see Unreal Tournament game modes) I think is a more appropriate classification.

I know the same argument can be made for attack/defend and 2-way CP maps, but they're relatively more similar than this IMO. Although I remember when I was new to TF2 I was also slightly lost until somebody explained to me the difference between the two. Maybe Valve's at fault here. as_dustbowl and as_granary would also make more sense than them having the cp_ prefix. as_badlands and as_goldrush as well? I think so. Assault describes the similar action of attack/defend between all of them to the player. Whether it's a bomb-cart being pushed, control points being taken, or ultra-sappers being planted :D, it all flows similarly.

In other news, the new version looks great! I'll be putting this up for testing this Sunday on my community's server. I'll post back with the results.

Not the place for this, but here's the run down:

Blue team must capture points using The flag

CP currently has more diversity in it's gamemodes, but they're all still called CP. We stuck with CTF for a number of reasons, mainly because it is still 100% descriptive of the gamemode, and just like CP theres room for variance in a gamemode name.

Oh wait, the intel is a 'spider'?

I thought it was a crab... you know... for witty spycrab-sapper humor.

Yes it involves capturing, yes it involves a flag, but you're still not Capturing The Flag. You're using the flag to capture something else. So actually, broken down, the CTF abbreviation doesn't describe this game mode at all.

Not the place for this
Is there some other thread that involves discussion of this then? Sorry...I didn't mean to crap all over this one, other than I thought this map was the originator of the mode for TF2. I just figured this would be the appropriate place :blushing:.

Although I agree with mdawmike, the sad thing is, without a standard set using a custom prefix looks pretty bad on server lists and loading screens, especially if everyone starts making up thier own prefix for the mode. With all the fail custom prefixes (dm, sf, ach, sn), as_ would fall with the rest of the mess.

What I've noticed with valve, regarding Prefixes, is if it requires a new HUD. A suppose good example is PLR.

Perhaps if one of us become official, we can ask valve for another prefix and game mode name. Until then, CTF is supported by valve and is a recognizable standard.

Well there was a thread a while back that included the discussion on the namesake.

Plus, custom subtitles aren't really good sounding, plus the mode would still show up as Capture the Flag underneath it.

But anyways, I gotta try the new beta in the next few days.

It is whatever you want it to be :)

Whether it be a spider, crab, parasite, I think they all do a good job describing it.

I think the Intel-Spider is perfect the way it is. Very impressive stuff.

Although I have one problem with the "crit" electricity particles emitted from the spider. I can see them in first person view. No matter if I stand still or run, I always have the lightning flashes on my screen.

I would like it if there was a "ptf" prefix. Push The Flag.

As a CTF fan, I prefer being able to distinguish "real" CTF.

I'd actually love to get rid of the paper trail, but I need to keep that blue strip.

The problem is, I don't know what the particle is called. Can anybody tell me the name of the blue strip particle?
