I think plenty of people in this community enjoy the updates

Until those people can make an argument, that refutes reality and logic, as to how the last near 2 years of updates have been beneficial to the game (pertaining to items/weapons/etc) then their opinions are meaningless.

As compared to a debate, yeah. In abstract terms, "I like it but I dunno why" can't be completely discounted, surely?

"Flare knocks back target on hit" Self-target? Better flare jump?

doubt it. it would say "Knocks back target and shooter" like the FaN if that was the case (and we already have the detonator which they are probably not going to buff any further)

i'll reserve judgment on the new weapons until i've used them, really

(@Sel - have only been playing tf2 for ~6 months, but find that in almost all cases the stock weapons and achievement unlocks are better and more versatile than the newer weapons. Can't exactly say the game was better before the updates because i wasn't there, although it was probably a lot better looking >.>)

we've unfortunately played this game for like 5 years now. There are definite straight upgrades to the stock weapons, mostly melee related

Christ, don't make me think about how long I've sunk into this game. I'm just over 2100 hours and I didn't even have my own account until like... a bit before the 119th update. That's before the update that brought earbuds and trading to the game. But I had played before that, almost since day 1. I got Pyromancer (a million fire damage) without knowing it was an achievement the first time, in a matter of days

My TF2 hours are inflated a lot due to keeping it open while mapping I guess. Still, for the record since around Pyro Update (but with 1 year of not playing at all inbetween)

Nope, they weren't. Trading wasn't there, hats weren't there. The game has had lots of updates, adding lots of stuff. (I only play TF2 for about a year now.)

Demos have six grenades! Stickies do more damage! Spies can't refill cloak with ammo! Engineers can't upgrade buildings! Medics don't have a Kritzkrieg! Nobody has a tauntkill!
