The only reason I didn't list anything other than optimization is because I'm in the middle of the hardest college semester so far, and I have far less time than I'd like to spend on things like this.

Go ahead and sign me up, I'll do the best job I can with what time I do have.

So if should we planning our layouts with any particular theme in mind? The only inspiration shot in the photobucket account is a swamp walkway so I assume we're doing Swamp theme?

i guess so? Also a reminder that Tapp said the First community project was fall in Dead and we gona fix some little problems on it, i guess? Anyways i really guess we will start in a new Map that uses any Theme that will be choosen by Tapp :thumbup: and we currently gona work on it. Very cool Indeed :thumbup1:

Currently the theme is swamp, if you'd like it to be a different theme simply post a picture or post a comment here. If there is conflict the best-looking picture will win. I have made a small art-ref area, just for a bit of inspiration (threw together in about 3 hours). Of course right now is blocking, and we're kinda sitting in the lobby in terms of getting participants and momentum. Zwiffle, J4ck8 and sniperpenguin, try to exchange steam information, and keep in touch with me and nerdboy. Head over to the photobucket account and upload any screenshots (hammer or in-game), half-baked ideas and amble sketches. Really anything that you are using or working with, you should stick on there. If you want to get started on blocking, go ahead. Zwiffle will be doing round 1, J4CK8 is on round 2 and sniprpenguin is making round 3. Radaka, if you feel compelled to talk to the blockers about anything, give them some advice, but I understand that you're pretty busy so help out wherever you can. Try to keep away from the areas which will join with other rounds, and once we have some screenshots flowing (make sure to make some 'cl_overview 1' shots) we can join the rounds together. Everybody else, try making some art-reference areas if you're REALLY bored. And remember, before you guys even open up hammer, look at the optimisation guide. I may be giving you a quizz on it and reprimanding you if your stages are specifically designed to lag. Oh, and if I can get it sorted out, the first person to put together an adequate stage gets a slice of toast

But what if we are not dealing with the stage gameplay, eg Art Pass #1. does that mean we don't get keys :confused: or does art fall under "adequate stage" too? in which case "the people who make the first adequate stage..." would be better phrasing. Just throwing that out there...

Wow sorry, had no idea this started. I've become a bit seperated from tf2 and mapping. School works kinda getting in the way, so feel free to pass on my job to someone else who can spend more time on it.

I understand you're very busy, I'll see if I can get somebody else onto your section. Now, you guys need to start uploading any and all information on what you have and will block in. Remember, sketches, ideas and even hammer screenshots are all welcome, and encouraged. The more you know about what everybody else is doing, the smaller the chance of another failure.

i think i did forgot to tell I am good as map detailer too , I like to detailing buildings, putting props in places,etc. Also 2nd art pass is good for me. :)

xD It's easy to work on a map that doesn't have any deadlines and no one relys on what I'm making to be done. And as I said TF2 doesn't get played much anymore.

I will still keep an eye on the project though, hope this one works and good luck.

You better be swamped, that is the theme [/pun]. Anyway, this version of the community mapping project is a lot more laid back, so if there is something more pressing just say so. I still haven't seen anything pop up in the photobucket account, we need to make sure everybody is on the same page from the very start. Swamp being a very hard to nail down style, I would like to see some detailers with spare time making some art-refs. You'd be amazed at how much you can learn about a style by making a small little vignette. I myself have made one, and once I've fixed it i can show you what kind of thing I mean.

Map name voting is now in. Whoever can post the most suiting name will be chosen, based on general consensus of the participants (if it isn't a landslide it will be a vote). Keep in mind the current premise of the map:
RED has several observation and warfare bases positioned throughout the swamp. All supplies, information and general distribution is handled by the temporary company 'Reliable Efficient Distribution', which dolls out rockets, chemicals and non-descript crates for the hidden bases. So a good name would incorporate something related to distribution or resale, as well as a very secluded swamp. This also brings me to the first requests for custom content. A large, square delivery van would be nice, as well as a poster for the distribution company (my current name for it is terrible, so come up with another one if you can). I would also like participants to take a look here, here and here since that custom content will prove quite useful.

First stage will begin from some kind of entrance point (a river or otherwise) and will progress through dense swamp and trees. The transition from first to second stage will be the first weapons research station. The second stage will be from there, through somewhat thinner swamp, leading up to the observatory/weapons guidance station. Finally, in the third stage, BLU will progress from there to the Distribution warehouse. Cars, tracks and airboats will litter the surrounding area, and the warehouse itself will be a giant concrete spytech structure concealed withing a massive wooden structure (somewhat simmilar to the vignette below). I understand that I have already told you to begin blocking, but try to keep this in mind. Remember to study any swamp references you can, because swamp is very difficult to get right (even in terms of blocking).

I apolagise for the double post, but since there is a general lack of effort on the part of sharing ideas and concept art, I've decided to post up my vignette in the hopes of inspiring you. I threw this together in one day (+2 weeks of fixing my custom overlays) and I expect that 10+ of you can contribute a piece of the map of at least this caliber. Anyway, enjoy:
