The Idea

Okay, please tell me if someone has suggested this before but I really like the idea and I think it could really help promote the site. My idea is that a group of people here on the site (You know who you are) who are good at making Youtube vids could create a Tf2Maps.net youtube account. On this Youtube account, they could create a series of vids on custom maps shown here on the site which would serve two purposes.

1. Would introduce Tf2Maps.net to a bunch of people who have never heard of it but have typed in TF2 in youtube search before.
2. Promote maps made on this site that are really awesome but dreadfully underplayed because few people outside of the community ever hear about them.

The Vids

The videos we would make would be stuff like Flythroughs of maps, Reviews of our maps (like how the contest maps are judged), 6v6 matches on the maps, Mapping tutorials (seeing a vid is a lot easier to understand then something your reading.), and more.

We could even collect vids already made by members of the site, like the Political gamers flythrough of Cp_iron, and put them on the site to even further promote tf2maps.net. We wouldnt even have to make anything for the first few weeks! Just a playlist with the vids already made in it!

Now Im not saying we should make vids of EVERY single map. Only RC or very mature Beta. At the staff's discretion, a map would be chosen to be featured on the front page (and youtube channel) for no less than a month, for it's high quality. The featured map would have a video made on it. The above would also be valid for contest winners.

In every vid we could put up the addresses to our US and EU servers, our website, our steam community, ect.

After people see all the amazing maps, they will join tf2 mappers for sure. We might even get 50 to 70 new members in the first 3 months from when this is started.

Millions of Gamers have youtube channels and we will be getting subscriptions and new members left and right like its no ones business. Even better, if we had maybe only 6 or 7 mappers/video makers working on this, we could have flythroughs out all most every week.

The 1 Problem

We will have to be careful with who knows the log in info for this omni-account. Only people who are making and uploading vids and a few VIPs. Not even I should know the account info. But that is the only problem I see and that is a good thing I guess since we already have a solution.

I love the idea and the best part is that it brings in free publicity for tf2maps.net

thats actually a great idea.

wow really?

I know for a fact that atleast a dozen people here on the site have youtube video making experience. Just to name a few, the political gamer, matt, Axeassin Jindo, Calostro, and thats just to name a few.

yeah it's a great idea, but it's the mappers job imo, to make the video at least. we could regroup the vids on the same youtube account tho.
You do have a point there. Many mappers are really good mappers but dont have the skill or time to make a vid for it. As long as the member is a member of tf2maps.net and they map is in the map section, I dont see why its okay to help them build and play test there map but not help them promote the map.

And remember this isnt just promoting the maps and map makers. Its also promoting......TF2MAPS.NET

what

no

This is completely ludicrous unless the mapper is good at video editing.

Why couldn't we even get some of the more experienced mappers (If they want to) to do some "advanced" mapping tutorials. Not the basic your-first-room that's there already, things like youme's displacement cliff, or a tutorial on the particle editor. Video tutorials are always much easier to follow.

Don't forget playlists and groups. That way you can pull it content uploaded directly by map authors under another account.

The only problem I see is who we give the login info to, we can't post it anywhere in plain sight, but if we are leaving it for the whole community to use, eh. IDK, maybe entrust ViPs with the login details, mapmakers make the videos and VIPs can upload? Something like that...

There are already loads of flythough videos and gameplay of maps from TF2maps and the servers, but one big channel would be a fantastic idea.

Especially Terr's idea with the playlists, you could easily organise each author into a category if they have multiple maps for quick access, or each individual maps with their different versions going through Alpha/Beta/RC/Final.

The new YouTube groups feature allows people to upload videos to their own accounts and feature them on the group, which would work quite well for this type of channel, so only the admins have to login and upload official videos.

Now that is something that needs to be addressed. Only people who are actually making the vids and a few VIPs should be able to upload vids and have access to the account. Or else there would be dire results.

true, but I don't see myself or anyone else making a full video for someone else's map. shitload of work tbh.

however we very well could make a video featuring many maps at the same time to promote tf2maps. that'd be more appropriate than having a video made for your own map.

I didnt mean every map, sry if it sounded like that. I just mean like maps that get in the top 6 of contests or have like over 250 comments in the maps section. if we have a few people working on them instead of just 1 it would be fine right?

As of right now any video tpg makes is barred from this channel.

That depends entirely on the quality of the map, whether the mapper has any friends who are good at this kind of stuff, and whether or not you speak for everyone, which I'm betting you don't!
