I thought the giant gimmick would have become stale outside of Crasher, but I was wrong, the mode with one giant player was still fun and Carrier shows it still has potential. Combat focusing on one overpowered player instead of two gave the map a fun rhythm to escort them to the point, and the routes have large airspaces to support them. I especially enjoyed climbing down the slopes to 1st, very atmospheric.
I found it fun to weasel around the edges with the Phlog and burn down crowds around the giant with crits. I liked seeing underused weapons like the Fan O War being used here. I liked that big glass wall after 1st letting RED plan ahead where the giant wants to move to, I also found it nerfed Spy as a decloak spot (a neat mapping trick).
Visually, a snowy village backdrop looked promising, but the 2nd point looked under detailed as a box meant to be a cave. I also was disappointed that the giant robot does not gain a robot VO filter, instead taking a deeper pitched voice.
Overall, I found Carrier fun and would like to play it again. It builds upon a unique gimmick under Attack/Defense that proves there’s still room for more giant maps.
