Well, I'm off to build a computer after my current one is undoubtedly and permanently dead. I'm going for a decision between one of two builds, here they are. What do you think I should go for?
Feel free to mix and match.

    AMD/ATI Build

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred
    Power Supply: Antec TruePower 650
    Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 Black Edition (Not sure if I should get this or an AMD quad core though)
    Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 5770
    RAM: Haven't chosen a brand but I'm looking at 4-8 GB DDR3
Hard Drive: Some generic 500-750 GB hard drive, haven't chosen a brand yet

    Estimated cost (without tax): $1300

    Intel/Nvidia Build

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred
    Power Supply: Antec TruePower 650
    Motherboard: Asus P6X58D Premium
    Processor: Intel Core i7 930
    Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 260
RAM: Haven't chosen a brand but looking at 4-8 GB DDR3
Hard Drive: Some generic 500-750 GB hard drive, haven't chosen a brand yet

    Estimated cost (without tax): $1500

Also, are there any cost-saving measures I could take to save a bit on the computer?

Far higher processing power I take it? I really won't be going much over L4D2's specs if that helps at all.

Why not an intel/ati build? That's what I'd go for.

Go for an i5 if you aren't going past L4D2, no point in an i7.

The ATI graphics cards are generally more powerfull for less money, however, I'd go with the Intel/Nvidia build.

Though the Nvidia cards are often the MOST powerful.

THe difference between the top ATI and the top Nvidia cards isnt really very much.

You sir are not taking compiling into account. I knew I'd do some large compiles, so for me the better a processor I can get the better. Consequentially I haven't seen a compile over 30 minutes since I upgraded to the i7.

But then of course if you're not going to be doing as much mapping as me, you dont need such a good processor in reality.

The AMD Phenom isn't a processor to be scoffed at, you lot.

It all comes down to whether you want to hold on to 200$ really, both builds are more than enough to handle pretty much anything to be thrown at you for the next year or two.
