Voting is now LIVE for the Second Annual Saxxy Awards, from now until midnight GMT, November 27th! Your votes will help our panel of judges make the final call on which entries are the most gut-bustingly hilarious, the most eye-wettingly dramatic, the most pants-crappingly action-packed, and the most heart-tuggingly romantic. We don't want to oversell things here, but this is quite literally the most important thing you will ever cast a vote for. All that Presidential election hooha? Consider that nonsense practice for your voting finger, like the training montage in Rocky IV, except instead of your finger lifting a telephone pole up a mountain on its back, it'll be clicking a mouse button.

How to Vote

Every video entered in the 2012 Saxxy Awards can be viewed and voted on at the Saxxy Awards voting page. Head over now to vote! We've randomized all the entries to keep things fair; however, you can filter by category if you're more interested in some genres than others. After you've watched an entry, simply upvote it or downvote it and move onto the next one. Vote as much as you like, but remember: you've only got one vote per entry.

Also, with such a huge number of entries, it's a challenge to keep on top of entries breaking the contest rules. So if you spot an entry that's longer than five minutes, or that's using copyrighted (i.e. not Valve, and not public domain) material, help us out and report it.

The winners of this year's Saxxy Awards will be revealed on November 30th, with the exception of the Best Overall category. Why? Because the winner of the Best Overall category will be announced LIVE on the GTTV Spike Video Game Awards pre-show on December 7th, AND their entry shown on the air. Stay tuned for details!

God, these are terrible. So gory, and so many of them are 5 minutes just because they can be. That and the terrible animation quality. A lot of these "good" entries look like first tries. No one seems to understand brevity, or how to tell a story, and everyone seems to be obsessed with the camera panning as someone walks. BOOOOOOOOORING

Ones I do like:

What are you now, Yyler, a movie critic?
Edit: I also had saw "Big Trouble in Rumble City" and "Midnight Power" before my post. So I have to agree with Yyler, Zach's work is amazing. I saw "Bad Medicine" before, a friend sent me the link.

Saxton Hale's arms really clip into each other in that picture, don't they.

They do, indeed. It's Saxton Hale in a straitjacket. That blends into his skin.

Some of the cinematic ones are bloody fantastic, though most of my playlists I have to vote through are filled with crappy replay submissions that are pretty terrible. I know the category is in there to give everyone a chance at winning something, but I think Valve should do a much bigger and more serious contest with the SFM in the future, hopefully after they release a lot more content from the other games.

Maybe have it set over a couple of months so people can make some truly awesome stuff? Heck, I'm already seeing some brilliant ones in this contest so I can't imagine what people could make if they had even more time.

The contest didn't have a specific time period for people to make the videos in. Practical Problems was made well before the awards were even announced.

You know, that reminds me. What engine branch does SFM run on, anyway? It can directly access map files like the Orange Box branch, but it's stored in /steamapps/common like Left 4 Dead and its successors, and can't access GCF or VPK archives. Is it some weird hybrid they had to cook up to keep it compatible with every game?

Runs off the an early version of TF2, they just import the everything from the other games out of the VPK and GCF archives into it so they can use them (evidenced in the Making of CS:GO Trailer where the Scout's playermodel bat is visible in the viewport)

It's not very helpful for your hard drive space...

I find myself downvoting every single replay. With such a powerful tool as SFM now available, there's no reason that even a simple replay shouldn't look amazing. But they don't. They all so far look dumb, and the things they're replaying aren't particularly special.

If everyone else is doing the same thing, then the replay category will simply be who gets downvoted the least, heh.

Also, every time I try to go to the next video now, I get a blank url with "That item does not exist. It may have been removed by the author."

Where are you guys finding these entries?? The only entries showing in my queue are either pretty bland or they push the limits of copyright rule, but the material they use is still substandard.

Edit: Nevermind, I found my answer. But anyway, the only replay I found funny so far was one the yyler found called "Erectin' a Nope." As for SFM, I really liked Badwater Bebop, especially when the BLU scout fights his RED counterpart.
