First, I wanted to say, last night's game day was a lot of fun. Looking forwards to the next event. There were some really great maps. One thing that I did notice with a couple of the custom maps last night, was spawning in an open area. Worse yet, was the area was controlled by the other team who killed me before I could get my bearings. I don't like exposed spawnpoints, and it should be noted that none of the VALVe maps have exposed spawnpoints. I sure the map creators had their reasons, but I think in both cases the execution was flawed. Personally, I don't think it's good. I'd rather spawn in a safe place much further away than being bulldozed by the enemy before I even know what's going on. Comments?
Hi man, I agree with you, I got cornered a few times too hehehe. Also I didn't see resuply lockers, maybe I just couldn't find them because I was getting killed every 5 secs hehe.
Personally, as a rule of thumb I always make two exits to any given spawn room. Camping a spawn room is lame, and a second exit keeps players in the game.
Of course not, since players will have options inside their base, and on any well made map will have at least one other exit to try to come out from. As for sniper camping spawn rooms, I don't think spawn rooms should be made such that a good sniper position would have line of sight on the spawn room exit.
Have I just misunderstood, or are people actually placing spawn point sin open parts of the map? Obviously, if I'm testing an uncomplete map and the respawn room has not been made, then a couple of spawn points will just be placed somewhere- but in such a case I wouldn't even consider having my map playtested by more than 1 or 2 players at once.
You said it spaceweasels, if valve doesnt do it, you definaitely shouldn't. Or better, if valve does it, do it better
Ha! Yeah, that happened to me a few times too. As a red team member I spawned on top of a blue controled CP. Lasted about 2 seconds. I wonder, though, if that spawn point (and the others) was on purpose or maybe a leftover from developement. Where to place my spawn rooms has been an issue for me. Finding the right location so as to give the players easy access to important areas, keep the other team from being able to spawn camp and also allow both teams the opportunity to acheive their goals without making it too easy/hard to get back into the game.
That's a good point. A lot of the maps we were playing were still in beta. It might have been a left over. However, I did noticed this on two different maps and I was wondering if this was being done on more maps. As the old adage goes: Once is a fluke Twice is a coincidence Three times is a conspiracy
