Seasons greetings! Hope you're in the mood for presents! Because we are giving away tons of them!
Tons! Like three!
And what more to get us in the Christmas (or Holiday) spirit more than some quick mapping? Think you're up for it? Well I hope you're ready for two months of absolute glee!
That's insane! What can we do in that time?
Well easy, we're having another control point contest (unofficial this time)! Only this control point's going to have a theme around it: participants are asked to build the most Christmas-y (or Holiday-y) control point you can following the below regulations. What can you come up with? Perhaps a control point amidst the delights of of Christmas morning? Or maybe a giant menorah? The possibilities are somewhat limitless!
That's awesome! What's the rules?
- All control points must fit in a 2048x2048 unit space (no height limit).
- 3D skyboxes are not allowed.
- Any gamemode allowed.
- Does not actually have to be playable or functional! Detailing only!
- Only one control point per map, please!
- Must submit one screenshot, your .bsp file, and a .vmf of your control point.
- Custom content is allowed, but only made entirely by yourself using your own resources, Valve's content or if is available to the public as of now (Made by someone else).
- Maximum of two entries (leave the presents for everyone else!)
- Your submission should be in this naming convention: holiday_<forum name>.bsp (If you're forum name is stupidly long, compromise on your name, not the prefix. eg. holiday_vfig.bsp for Velvet Fist Iron Glove's entry because we love him).
- All entries must be submitted by December 25, 2010 or they will be excluded.
- Entries must be started on or after October 27. Please use the honor system.
- Christmas and the holidays are tender subjects. Anything considered particularly offensive will be disqualified. (Religious symbolism and traditions are generally okay. If you're not sure if it's offensive, it probably is.)
- Collaborations are allowed, but your prize may be reduced. If you have two participants and win first, for example, you will instead win either two posters or $10 on the TF2 store.
Be sure not to start before midnight tonight, October 26, and be sure to be done by midnight December 24, Christmas Eve! Because what better way to celebrate Christmas (or whatever) than to be in a dark basement without food?
Again,
Start at 0:00 GMT-5, October 27, 2010
Submit all maps by at 0:00 GMT-5, December 25, 2010 (because Midnight is the next day, silly)
How will we know who won?
Christmas is about the joy of giving back, and how better to give back than to be judged by your fellow community members? The official voting thread will go up on January 1 and end by January 7, 2011. What better way to ring in the new year? Wasn't this contest about the Holidays?
Again,
Voting begins on January 1, 2011
Voting ends on January 7, 2011
So what are these wonderful prizes?
Well just you see!
* Because these are real things, I'll need a mailing address to send them to. If you're unwilling to provide one, feel free to take the virtual prize.
** Posters must cost less than $10. I will not be able to afford the Lithographic Heavy poster. Most other posters are about $8. The extra $2 is shipping/handling.
*** Tools are recommended. If you buy something else, I'll probably end up buying the gift wrap myself, unless you actually are trying to bankrupt me.
Prizes will most likely be given after January 10. Holiday spirit never dies!
Hurry up! Santa doesn't wait for you!
