Improved alt-tab handling under Windows Vista and Windows 7
Oh good. Now they just have to stop it from becoming completely unresponsive every time it changes to a new map. (I get the feeling game developers only support the Vista/7 kernel's quirks when failing to do so means the game won't work at all, as if they're still hoping Microsoft will chuck it out the window and go back to XP's any day now.)

Funny how updates that when a MAJOR fix comes out for TF2 all the thread gets are few of dumb replies of "should have been fixed ages ago" or "I bet it didn't fix anything" then quickly forgotten while updates with even a wiff of a promo go on for pages of wwaaaahhh TF2 is dead.

I guess people would rather put more time into hating something then actuality being happy.

Maybe Valve shouldn't put themselves in the firing line to begin with? I mean, you gotta think, if so many people bitch and complain... maybe somethings wrong? Why is that out of the question? This isn't religion where you put blind faith in something, that if you pray enough little Jimmy's bone cancer will be miraculously cured and if you're not silently praying hard enough it's only your own fault. Valve are providing a service and when that service fails to meet expectations shit will hit the fan and people will... bitch and moan.

I don't get what's so unreasonable about this concept to you.

Besides, as far as i can gather most of it is satire, and those remarks that aren't are pretty accurate statements anyway.

I always thought the alt-tabbing problem was some kind of sacrifice for the engine to perform better - but now in the same fix they've improved performance drastically and given us the gift of alt-tab... It does kind of make you wonder where the priorities are?

Also, almost always someone will say "you can't complain it's a free update"... Well I've spent way over a £100 on items and keys in the year since the Mann store opened and I think I have a right to make demands, I'm a part of the reason there are still updates.

People in that thread are reporting instant switching in fullscreen and memory use reduced by two-thirds. What is this witchcraft.

I've had the game set to use windowed mode for years, and I've even started doing it with other games in order to minimize switching time, but I changed to fullscreen to test this out and ... wow, they weren't kidding. Well, it has a leg up on my other games, at any rate. I wonder if they plan to import these changes into their newer games too. The dynamic model loading is probably limited to just player items and thus useless for anything other than hat simulators, but instant alt-tab switching seems like a good feature to have.

One problem I seem to be having now, though, is that sometimes when I alt-tab out during the map change, it randomly decides not to display the intro screen when I switch back, making it impossible to enter the team/class selection menu. Also for some reason the usual thing Windows does where it swaps the order of the last two active apps so that I can use alt-tab to toggle between them doesn't happen, so I have to alt-shift-tab or click the taskbar icon to get back.

Aaaaaaaand now it's affecting my menu. I tabbed back in after attempting to connect to a server to find a Reliable Stack Overflow error in the middle of the screen and the menu barely peeking out the left edge, with only the Options button visible. Amusing, but annoying. Had to force-quit from the taskbar.
