Didn't flares crit anyway? Or was it a minicrit?

Only when the target was already on fire though. Now they crit at long range regardless of the target's state (unless the target is dead, or an inanimate object).

So the nerfed the backburner?

There's some confusion as to whether the "10% base damage" bit applies to the BB as well. If so, it might be just a hair better than it was pre-pyro-updates. Some of Valve's language in terms of percentages is ambiguous.

My interpretation is that the BB is at 98-101% of it's pre-119 power, the FT is 88-90%. But afterburn was un-nerfed so that's great.

EDIT: I misread it as "Flames that hit a burning player at mid-to-long range will crit".

I guess I'm not going to complain then. :p

Decent changes I guess.

Offtopic: Steam servers crashed? Can't get a connection to the Store or even the TF2 website.

Edit: It's ok now.

I play Pyro a lot, I hardly use the flare gun, I just think the shotgun is such a better weapon but that's really opinion. I will give the flare gun a shot tho, shouldn't be too hard since I play demo and soldier decently.

Shotguns only really better against Pyros I reckon, instead I use the normal Axe incase of Pyro encounters and keep the Flaregun for normal enemies. Critaxe - people know its coming and it's usually quicker to just keep flaming them plus you can still reflect projectiles. If you flame a bunch of people - it's way safer to step back and shoot with the Flaregun rather then chasing them around with the Critaxe and getting killed.

No it got buffed. It just didn't get buffed as much as the normal flamethrower.

One thing Valve should do with the Backburner is to properly set the crit flag when behind an enemy to the same one when the Spy lands a backstab. I always have to face the small of my target's back to land crits with my Backburner. If Valve were to update this, the crits would be more consistent and possibly denerf the Backburner.
