I am trying to get the Sergeant's Drill Hat added to my tf2map as a prop but I cant seem to find it in the model browser. I tried to import the .MDL files from a game banana post that had the .MDL files for download but when I put them in the corresponding directory inside of tf2 they still don't seem to populate in the model browser on hammer.

Unselect the Ignore Economy Models option in the model browser. You don't need to download anything. Note that the hat needs to be a prop_dynamic or prop_dynamic_ornamental entity as it will not show up in game as a prop_static.

Im able to find the robo version of the hat but not the normal version. For my use case is there any reason I would use prop_dynamic_ornamental over just prop_dynamic?

Check Team Fortress 2/tf/resources/tf_english.txt for the actual file name of the hat, which may be different from its display name. Some of the items have completely deranged file names because Valve is consistently inconsistent. Prop_dynamic_ornament is probably not useful in your case, but it can be used to inherit render effects from a player: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Prop_dynamic_ornament

I found it listed as "TF_SoldierDrillHat" "Sergeant's Drill Hat" in tf_english.txt when looking up either of these terms in the model browser the robotic mvm version is still the only one that shows up.
