Heya! Just made this account to request a custom model for my koth map.
I need a small meteorite that has crashed in to ground. About 256.0 units wide in hammer.

Exelent image by stevethepocket (i hope you dont mind me using it here)

Controlpoint would be located around/on top of the meteor

Just a round sphere shaped meteorite basicly. Let me know what you think and if someone would be so kind to provide me with this.

It does not need much detail, just something that looks like a meteorite and not like a volleyball. :)

" About 256.0 units wide in hammer. " as I stated in the post.

so that would be 256 by 256 by 256 square space to fit a sphere in. It can be larger if needed, but something along those diameters

So u don't want it flat on the bottom? You will be making people render unnecessary polygons if you plan on sinking it into the ground

it can be a half sliced sphere if that makes it easier for you. Im afraid i have 0 experience in the modeling buissnes :s

I did not exactly mean " I NEED THIS NAO GIMME " when making this post. I was just curious to see if i actually could get a prop like this done for the map. I understand if people do not want to waste time, so ill just continue working on the map :)

For the sake of all that is holy.

It better look like a proper meteorite, or the astronomer in me will cry very very hard.

For example.

But this is TF2, it has to have tiny craters and cartoonish texture, right?

Edit: also, round. Like a tiny moon..?

Not tiny MOON craters at least. It would need to be absolutely enormous to sport something like that.

Besides, it doesn't need to be that noisy in texture. Most larger meteoroids consist of a pretty significant amount of iron. Up in the 90%'s sometimes. Such meteors look like iron too.

Most meteorites are not round (like a tiny moon) ... they are weirdly shaped. Like the one shaped like a potato. Yea, it's TF2 so cartoonish texture is fine. But there has to be some semblance of realism, or it just doesn't fit with the rest of the TF2 Theme

Someone's been doing their research ... or paying attention in science class!

So, talking humanoid robots shaped like the TF2 main cast have "some semblance of realism"? This game draws a lot of inspiration from sci-fi B movies and old spy flicks. A "meteorite" that looks like a chunky ball covered in circular craters and glowing bits is totally in keeping with the theme. Heck, most people who haven't studied astronomy probably still think meteorites look like that.

The smoke is also key. I have no idea how you'd pull off a plume of smoke like that with Source's particle system.

What Steve posted is probably the best inspiration for this model; readability is a huge factor in TF2, and if you made a realistic meteorite nobody would be able to tell what it is (plus it'd look like butts, and as the map's centerpiece it has to look awesome).
