I'll have my entry in if I can figure out Hammer lighting in the by the deadline.

Does optimization matter at all in the contest?

Jazz, i really like that. Good job making it go down, but maybe a little slower would be cool if possible.

And great room, love the hole for light in the roof.

Keep em coming guys, we've got quite a few red intel rooms, why not try out a blue one for your second entry?

TBH, the rules kind of make it seem like you can just make some really, really pretty detail area and shove the intel somewhere in that little detail area space.

Ok, valid question this time:

Would I be allowed to use a skybox? I have a window that's supposed to be looking out over a large landscape, and I think the easiest way to make it would be to do a 3D skybox.

I know you said we have to follow a specific naming convention, but my intel room that follows the naming convention won't buildecubemaps. I tried compiling again and it still didnt' work. So I saved it named as something else, and now it will buildecubemaps!:) So, can I deviate a bit from the naming convention so that i can enter?

Never cleared this up, yes, you can shorten the name you put in the filename if cubemaps aren't building for you. Use _cod_ or something else thats clear who's entry it is.

I thought I had put this in the rules, but it seems I didnt. So theres nothing saying you can't use a skybox so go for it. However I'd encourage you to concentrate on detailing the scenery of the intel room and imidiate surroundings itself rather than the far distance.

Thats a pretty bad way of looking at it though...

Essentially yes, but since we're not going for function, just detailing practice you should at least try and make the whole area fit together.

For my first entry, I thought I'd recycle an area from an unfinished map I started a year ago, since I have a nicely detailed intel room that had never seen the light of day except for a screenshot:

I plan to make a second entry freshly for this competition, though.

Hey guys, I had this great idea that I'll share with you since I probably won't work on it because I'm busy with another map:

As soon as you grab the intel, you have to run from a giant boulder and all those other obstacles like in Indiana Jones. :D
