You need to continue to rev up as long as you want to move at normal speed. You also have to select a different secondary/melee weapon. You can't jump, you can't stop spinning, and you can't use other items. Fair and balanced.

Fun fact: this exploit just required you swapped out a melee or secondary weapon. You don't need the GRU.
