I can't think of any justification for mixing these two art styles, except for the infallible argument of "who cares?"
Really, I'm starting to get annoyed by the lasers and the death animations. They just look goofy, but not in the fun way TF2 usually is. It's a different kind of goofy, one that's delicious all on its own, but not mixed with TF2's retro-Rockefeller look. It's like mixing creme brulee and Branston pickle.
