So, looking through the forums, no one has actually gathered together a decent list of servers.

That being said, custom map servers are next to dead. The only ones that run them anymore are youtuber's servers and mods, as well as TF2maps. Ever sense quickplay was added, custom map servers weren't necessary anymore, hardly even vanilla servers in GENERAL. You could just join a trusted server at the touch of a button, thus making US obsolete.

So, this forum is for rounding together all of the findable IPs for servers dedicated to running custom maps, posting your own dedicated server that runs custom maps, as well as the previous versions of this forum that I didn't see.

This has been done before and there are still threads somewhere with relatively up to date info.

"Vault 404" 24.142.137.43:20350 NA based, runs events every friday night around 7:00 pm UTC-5

They run a few custom maps from ~3 years ago and one or two more recent ones.

Custom map servers aren't dead. You just have to be willing to look around.
Quickplay has killed quite a few communities though. I don't really understand why people use quickplay over finding a community of regulars/friends.

"Top Notch Clan" A US West Coast community runs a Payload only server, that is basically always full from like 5-11pm PST. They basically only play custom payload maps and are always looking for more. Only gripe is since there are so many regulars it can be hard to get a spot on the server.

It's a great community, but after the quickplay change the rest of their servers (besides the payload one) grew stagnant.

Thinking about it, I don't understand why quickplay does't just have a: "play custom maps" option. It would really spice things up.

I think if you don't stick to the Valve-provided list of maps, your quickplay status is removed. So a quickplay advanced options check box would require Valve to allow custom maps on quickplays.

It would be nice if there was a server tag for custom maps. Maybe a check box in the main server browser, too.

I saw a thread some time ago that said exactly this. The problem is that there's no way for the game to differentiate "genuine" maps from shitty surf maps and cp_orange, and 9 times out of 10 the quickplay function will just send players to the latter category.

Unless I'm missing something here.

The actual reason is probably along the lines of dm, surf, and idle, rather than "shitty" "cp_orange".

So about Quickplay. I've never used it. Always browse the list.

See number of players, maps, ping, view info, look for player names I recognise.

Am I the only one?

I think valve is working on a workshop for maps in tf2, so i could imagine that they would make better support for custom maps in the game as well.

I never used quickplay until I realized it's an excellent method for rooting out servers when you have terrible internet. Stick it on community, blacklist all premium servers you know of, and let it run until it autojoins you. Half the time the server won't be empty.

Hi there, I just happened to see this thread and wanted to say that over at joe.to we've been running a custom map server since 07' with a decent selection of maps.

64.31.58.74:27015 or tf4.joe.to
