Made this years ago for... I think I made it for cp_rum first *shutters*. It is now used in pl_crag_event (the Halloween version of Crag.) Now, after years and thousands (more like 2) requests, here it is for all to use freely! Just please give me credit and let me know if you use it! I'd also prefer to be asked first if you want to edit it in any way. Thanks guys! :)

Here's some suggested settings for the environment entities:

entity1.PNG

Brightness HEX is: 85 77 66 200
Ambient HEX is: 114 142 158 70

--------------------------------------------

entity2.PNG

Shadow Color HEX is: 164 164 191

--------------------------------------------

entity3.PNG

Primary Fog Color HEX is: 43 43 64
Secondary Fog Color HEX is: 255 255 255

Holy crag!

Well if there's one thing we can stand to have more of, it's nighttime skyboxes.

I think there's not too many night maps around here (or even sunset maps), so this contributon will come really handy for future maps.

Thank you,my good sir. :D

I hope you guys get good use out of it!

Just a bit of a hint, it's a good idea to put a few lights out in the skybox by the sunset to give the landscape a bit more of a sunset-y feel.

For Crag, I put 3 of these in strategic positions to give a bit of orange/yellow rim lighting to the landscape in the skybox.

That's actually really clever, I never thought about the idea of adding light in the skybox before!

It mostly came from how odd the skybox looked against the sunset. It was really dark looking because the light_environment is actually for the moon and not for the sun, so I needed to add the sun's light in somehow. It ended up working out really well.

this may be out of left field... but i cant seem to pull the skybox out of my materials... unless it goes into the materials folder... then in this case I'm stupid

edit: I'm stupid, but now its loading checkerboards, and in game: no sky is loaded (not sure if do temporary 2d skybox

extra edit: what should the map_skybox_name should be?

Still new to the custom assets thing to be frank, but: I am either having a bug in hammer, or I can't find where to put it, I'm gonna check tf2 cache, but it just does not load properly: as in skybox is not rendered

Make sure you take every vtf and vmt in the zip, put them in the tf/materials/skybox folder. if there isn't a skybox folder, make one.

Then go onto your map. Click "Map" in the menu bar and then click "Map Properties."

In Map Properties, there is a item called "SkyBox Texture Name." In there, replace whatever is there with "Crag_Sky" and press Apply.

That should work, unless I'm forgetting something.

It should, but do I put the specific files into a skybox folder under materials, or do I leave the crag folder?

Put just the files, out of the folder.
Alrighty, that should fix everything, would know instantly when posting... But late night, painful reminding of a earlier life dealing with the supernatural, lust, and then there lack of alcohol to make it all sound reasonable...
