I don't know why people are so hyped about trading. Crafting was always where it was at in my mind.

my guess is that it allows you to convert spare weapons in an intermediate item wich can be converted to your favorite weapon. I also think it is just for the unlocks
aka
-no hats
-no community-rare items. (no soldiers medal)
basicly you can think of it as item-drop but within a certain amount of items, you will get the item you want

as long as I can get all weapons with achievements, I'm happy.

Any news on whether the levels of the items will have any effect on the item crafting? or are they still just meaningless numbers :p

I think the higher-than usual levels of certain items are just caused by a bug in the early days of random drops. As well, I doubt that you can change the stats of weapons by crafting them, it's just for getting useful stuff out of duplicates.

Just watch. You'll craft a Ushanka, be happy, and then the next time you're in the server, you'll get a Ushanka.

this reminds of the time I used to play pokemon....(good times)
