I've revisited the models, and for the past week I have worked on improving them. Updated meshes on both the rifle and the machete, made all the weapons use roughly the same color palette to tie it together, textures are re-done from scratch.

Also made a new addition, a SMG. Been working hard to get a viewmodel of it, and as you can see in the video I clearly made something... it's far from done though.

Why?
Because I know much more about modeling now, than I did back whenever the polycount competition was held. I like to apply new knowledge to old projects :)

Edit: some images, just because:

The SMG is a little... eh. It just doesn't look like a weapon to me.

Cool new smg!
Is it based on the grease gun?
Also like the new palette :)

Yeah, it looks a bit like an M3 from that angle. Try flipping the sight on the back of the gun so that the corner is towards the user, and also making it a little steeper. Add some ridges to the shallower part of the barrel as well, and extend it out further so that it shows up in the viewmodel. There's also a severe lack of tape. The other side of the model looks wonky as can be told from the world view.

Thanks. And no, it's not based on the M3. I used a number of references from a few models but the grease gun was not one of them. After looking it up I'm pretty glad I didn't because it looks weak :p

I always have trouble modeling holes. Like the ones on the smg barrel. Any tips?

Btw, I really like that sniper rifle. I still think it shoulda won over the Sydney sleeper.

I made the holes by carving essentially. In 3dsmax you use Booleans to subtract intersecting geometry in various ways.

There's also a severe lack of tape.

Still not happening.

The smg looks like a MP40 to me. I really like the idea of a double canon sniper rifle. Good job !

The Mp40 is much more angular with much more distance between the grip and magazine. And they're called barrels.

I still don't get UV unwrapping in 3Dsmax. It seems less efficient to me, but then again I did the "Oh I'll figure it out in no time" and gave up.

It seems like it would take forever to unwrap a cylinder riddled with holes. Unless you unwrapped it first and then carved it. But I still don't get unwrapping in 3ds

Oh well. I still like the smg a lot. It is amazing.
