You are talking rubish! really you are. I've downloaded many large maps and have never had to wait more than two minutes for the map to download and for the game to request all the server info (which usually takes about 30 secondsish).
It does not take 2-6 minutes to download for the average player on a half decent server.

Anyway, like mangy put so well: It doesn't matter how big it is you only download it once, thats what? less than 6 minutes (according to you) and less than 2 according to me, either way thats less than a third the time you'll play it for even if you only stay for one game of it.

If you don't like how big it is: Stick it. End of story, case closed.

i can believe it takes you 2 minutes (and I have been referring to the total connect time, as in clicking join until you can play) I'm simply saying there is a range based on how good the download server is, on mine it has never taken more then 3mins. On a few other ive been waiting quite a bit longer. I still remember one time i was downloading from the tf2maps server and was sitting there for 20mins because someone changed the server map while i was download and it glitched or something causing an endless download screen.
The 46 (aprox, i dont really feel like looked) seconds that someone on the last page suggested for the map is what really annoyed me...that is completely unrealistic.

But yeah...anyways...umm...
something mildly amusing...I saw this map on a tf2 noob server :p

yeah, only a complete moron will play on a server where he gets 500 ping because he's on the other side of the worl of the server.

Damn... I wished I lived where you do, only corporations get 2 MB/s where I am, my home internet maxes out at 300 KB/s (a few friends have around 400-500 KB/s) but on average when downloading stuff from game servers it tends to be down around 150 KB/s max

Needs more hoodoos. ;) No, it really doesn't. I'm curious what the current status of the map is. Are you planning changes? Have you made changes since the last release? Are you waiting in an attempt to take the map final?

Personally I still think the final area needs to be expanded more (based on the last release), but otherwise the map plays pretty well. Once you've got everything pinned down I'll ask my clan to go through and screenshot any visual oddities like weird shadows and things like that, but I'm pretty sure you've already handled many of them (floating cabinets and handcarts, for example). :)

I think I'll do a bit more tweaking and release _b3 by late next week, snipergen isn't going to do an explosion anymore so I've just myself to wait on.

Indeed, there is simply no time for it, and I'm very sorry to let you down on this Youme but I've got more important stuff to do :( You should use the default one and do it a bit like badwater or use smokestacks to simulate radiation with a very high opacity.

I'm sure you could rig something up with a bright green light entity to represent the radiation in an entirely stereotypical way. :p

Also, I still want to see someone add an explosion in the skybox... NUCLEAR BLAST!!

good improvements. Getting stuck in that dead end on the first part of the map was always annoying, now its possible to jump out. I like that you put the ladder back into the 2nd point. Gives Red some tactical advantage to flank again, considering Blu has 4 entry ways. There were a few minor cosmetic problems I have told you about already, so no need for detail here.

Just a little note but I wish you'd move the resupply cabinets nearer to the doors in the respawns. Not close enough to have the door open while touching the cabinet of course, but closer. You say its the same in GoldRush and other valve maps, sure it is. I think they are too far back in those maps too ;).

Also I think Blu need more than 1 exit from the spawning area of the spawn on the first point. Not being a pro sniper but I have pretty much locked that door down when sniping on defence. Perhaps make a route that opens on top of the stairs too?

I don't need people to make particle effects for me, I figured out very early on how to use the editor and I enjoy making particles. I'd have plenty already if valve would fucking hurry up and sort the particles in the bsp stuff out!

Edit: Wow, according to this, which I believe to be reasonably accurate I had 13 servers with hoodoo on today, admitedly only 3 were running _b3 but even so thats the most I've ever seen to date.

Still no email from valve though... Don't you love me valve? :(

Actually, I've found valve to be very prompt in their replies. When I asked about internships, I got a reply within 50 minutes, and when I emailed Gabe asking for an autographed 3x5 card, I got a Portal poster signed by half the team 3 weeks later.

Heh. I need a T-shirt that says "Gabe Newell is my Homeboy". :p
