I understand your disappointment, HQ. When I saw your first posts I saw how eager you were to talk about mapping and I expected you would be an energetic forum user who likes to get involved in things, and get what he can out of life. Undoubtedly, most users who have had their veteran status and custom title removed will be a little upset. And you have said that you understand why it happened, which shows you see the reasons for it. But you needn't make so many posts complaining. It's enough to express your disappointment once. Extending it over multiple posts only makes other people upset because they don't want to see such negativity.

One of the core aspects of the TF2maps culture is that we look at other people's work carefully and objectively, whilst trying to avoid placing our own bias on it.

I share the view of other folks who prefer to post conservatively. I believe that a person's reputation should come out in the way he portrays himself on a forum in each of his posts. If you value yours, try you rein it in a little :)

Okay, I'm gonna be even more honest here, everyone is tired of your shit-posting around here. If you spent more time on your maps and actually learnt about mapping rather than doing it just for the thanks on the forum from the people who felt sorry for you then you might actually get respect and actually deserve the title. -Snip because irrelevant-

Thirdly, no one gives two craps if you have a little title below your name or a special colour because it's about what you're actually posting and not how many overused memes are below your name. So how about being quiet about losing something you didn't deserve, getting your head down and actually improving at mapping so you can actually earn that crap you've been whining about for the last fifty pages.

Edit: This incredibly harsh, but the truth isn't always nice. To put it nicer, just post less and spend more time on your maps trying to make them the best they can rather than rushing them "for the glory".

A: I don't rush my maps. Or at least not intentionally, and certainly not for glory. That presumptuous and stupid.

B: Yes, I post a lot, and frankly, I didn't deserve the veteran membership. I was pretty surprised when I got it. I woulda been fine with the change had I not had it yet. So I can understand why you feel I'm whining. So I'll stop with that.

C: I get that you edited it and said that you put it kinda harsh, but you came and flat out insulted me. Not cool. Period.

I came before you edited the other junk out, and I got pissed, and came this close to just leaving the site for a while. I then cooled down enough to say what I wanna say and not make it random junk.

Whether or not you rush your maps would require analysing of what you've done and on what time scale, which is completely unnecessary for me to do unless you're intent on me doing so. Secondly, yes, you do post a lot but there's also such a thing as posting too much, perhaps too many progress updates and things, and as well there could be a point where you take too much of an offensive on a site update that it does become 'whining'.

But on your final point, it was not a professional thing to do to be taking it out on you as I did and so I apologise for that - though I'm sure you understand my methodology, as many a time have others called you out on things and you've seemed to do little to anything - but I do however have to realise now that as a staff member I should show a little more restrain as far as anything like this goes. My intentions were also more of "tell you what you're doing wrong straight to your face" and not to do a plain, pointless personal attack.

If you wish to take this any further it's better taken to private messages.

Okay, I'd call that a happy ending :)

Now let's lock up this forum before I this goes any further :bored:

EDIT: Okay, since the thread isn't close yet, 1 more thing:
To lighten everybody's spirits, listen to this-
this came on when I booted up TF2 to take screenshots, and just like that, it was like it never happened.
...Wait, what were we doing again?

Couple things I wanted to toss out there after skimming most of this...

Titles, custom or not, don't mean much. The defaults are droll and custom ones get overlooked and ignored anyway. Mine has been google translate gibberish for like four years and I forget half the time. Want a personal touch to show yourself off? That's what signatures are for. (look at mine, primarily helpful with a sprinkle of humor, and no personal maps, whodaguessed)

What IS the new veteran threshold? It was 500 posts, right? How many thanks is it now?

We have a few mathematicians on the site, if yall really want you could come up with a complicated algorithm combing posts, thanks, and which forums they are in to determine an invisible esoteric veteran threshold scoring. :p

Also, I see no reason to lock this thread.

Why do you think you have that shiny badge in the first place, punk? This ain't all for fun and games ya know, this is serious business. When the work got too much I turned in my badge and retired to a nice cottage with a big lawn I could yell at the kids to stay off of. It's like you expect to do nothing and everyone will smile and wave when they pass by your desk without realizing that you've been sitting there motionless the whole time as if you were

frozen.

There's some confusion I want to clear up. Ranks are not based on thanks - we wanted to do this, but it's way complicated. The new ranks are below:

Veteranship is achieved at 300 thanks. About 30/80 veterans have lost their veteranship.

I said it last night in chat, but I'll say it here too - having the word "Expert" applied based on post count seems to be just as much of a point endeavor as Veteran was.

Otherwise I could shitpost my way to Expert and then command respect of newbies for my devilish schemes
