I'm just curious about how many vintage members we have around here. Remember when we had a single Saturday for 6-8 hours? Schedules were made by hand by yours truly, trying to accommodate both the Europeans and people who had very specific time constraints. Arena was constantly broken, and I tore my hair out trying to create a program for automatic map-changes :crying:
There was no staff to speak of, and all maps needed their .bz2 upload created by hand. Between writing the schedule and uploading the maps, simply prepping for Gameday was 2 hours of work. The community was large enough that people expected great things, and were easily upset when stuff wasn't perfect. I actually had to reprimand two of the current staff about how to appropriately deal w/ obnoxious posters, and how it's not ok to bitch at the staff (me) when they are (I am) working so hard
Still, it was the only such event in existence. There wasn't any place else for mappers to get reliable play testing from fellow custom enthusiasts. Now for bonus points and a cookie, who remembers Gamedays before they were map testing? I'll give you a hint, it was created and run by one of the very first moderators. Good times (Oh boy have we come a long ways since then, lol).
