Awesome! Badlands is (imo) the best map in the game.

Turns out the Engineer was the Man in Black all along! And all of TF2 is some kind of purgatory and they're waiting for their final soul mate (the 10th class - but he's busy guarding the real world (HL3)) before they can move on.

Neither toolbox has two handles...
They both have two metal plates attatched to the box holding the handle.

The map looks a bit undetailed, however this could just be an unplayable area behind somewhere where you are unlikely to see?

I thought the whole thing was just a joke from Valve? Saying "this could only have come from us" then giving a low-quality image that could easily be recreated? Sounds like typical Valve humor.
