Train speed/track orientation?

2 questions:

1.)Is it not possible for a train to change speed if it's set to change velocity instantaneously? All of my attempts to do so result in the train just moving at it's initial speed.

2.)Does setting the orientation type for a path track to "face path track angle" actually do anything? I messed around with it a bit and it doesn't seem to have any effect on anything

you have to do it over multiple path_tracks I believe
