I don't really understand why it had to be a "travelling into the game world!" kind of story. I really feel like Minecraft as an artistic choice instead of being "the plot" of the movie would work a lot better. If the whole idea of Minecraft is that you can do anything, then why would you have your story where real humans who can't do "anything" play the roles? There could be a wholly-original story that's tangential to Minecraft, like a story where the objective is to slay the ender dragon, but I think having bit more depth than just "omg it's minecraft" would go a long way in making it feel like a better movie on its own.
