Just amazing how time flies when you're not paying attention. News has been kindof slow the past couple of weeks. Also I've been busy with school stuff, and feeling rather lazy about TF2 :glare: We have just over a month until the end of [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=7009]Annual Contest #3[/ame] I hope you all have been making good use of this extra time. Remember that we're going to have multiple winners (and probly a few consolation prizes), so don't wimp out In case you missed the bump, I have uploaded a third poster for Calculated Chaos; http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=2491 Personally my favorite thus far. Btw, if you downloaded it in the first 5min. or so, please get it again. I trimmed the excess borders, so there isn't a giant slab of white behind it.

In local news, I would like to remind everyone to spend time giving feedback in the [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/forumdisplay.php?f=45]Models & Textures forum.[/ame] Some recent additions that caught my eye are the [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=8762]Jumbo Bag Of Potatoes[/ame] and these [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=9456]Dead End Signs.[/ame] They both make me 'lol' Finally, in light of the problems that arose from voting in the [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=8513]Swamp Contest[/ame], I have been thinking of a better way to handle the popular vote. Frankly, the Swamp Contest saw the largest number of entries for any contest in the history of TF2M, so nobody could have predicted what would happen. Mad props to all of the authors, and of course the Swamp creators. I think that wraps up the notes for now. Till next time, happy mapping

I have been thinking of a better way to handle the popular vote.

The nice thing is that even someone who only looked at half the entries can vote without screwing the system up, because as long as they mark "No opinion" on the ones they didn't see, their vote only affects matchups they did get time to review.

I'd like a simpler voting scale if we are to do one.

...just look at [the 1-10 scale] in use in other places (ie FPSB). Most rater's scales range from 7-10, and 1-5 is hardly ever used, except for people the few who vote in the extremes and throw it off. Hardly useful, and "perfect 10" is by definition impossible.

Instead, how about the simpler 5-star system?

* - Poor
** - Decent
*** - Good
**** - Very Good
***** - Excellent

all this really does is remove the unnecessary 1-5 levels and makes 10 reasonably feasible

Hmm I read this on the Youtube Blog. I know Youtube != tf2maps.net but it's potentially relevant?

The overwhelming majority of videos on YouTube have a stellar 5-star rating.

It's just highlighting people's tendency to always 5 star or 1 star something they have to rate.

Edit: Some comments on that blog post have interesting points, too.

The reason 1-5 isn't used is because it causes the submission to be deleted if under 5, and nobody wants to be "that guy" unless it's really bad, because most people who upload things that bad are stupid assheads who think they're great and will stalk you and downvote all your submissions out of spite.
