The wires are covered with metal pipes. There's no way you can cut or detach them with your current equipment.

You equip the self-made (sorta) plate shard. It's a pretty crappy weapon and you're not really planning on fighting anything, but whatever.

It is about to, making animated pages is not the fastest or easiest task in the world, even more so when there is (Like you said) Portal 2 and all other shit going on.
