I'd be happy to make some splitscreen videos from games. For example, in the 6v6 games 4 people are chosen to record a demo, then they are recorded in fraps and edited into something like the following:

my point is that there is a danger in making vids for other's map. because we simply can't make a vid for every maps. Some peeps will start complaining their map is not getting as much attention as others etc...

if you want to feature some maps to promote the community. do many maps at a time. not 1 map per video.
or you'll get a bunch of "why is tf2maps not making a vid for my map?" or something

Well Im not really sure what to do with this problem. I think the benefits of making the channel compared to not making it because of this problem makes it obvious that we should implement this. For video flythroughs we could easily show like 3 or 4 maps if they are small, 2 or 3 if there big, entire videos for 1 map would be reserved for 6v6 vids. Besides there are also map making tutorial vids.

Allow me to make a suggestion to your suggestion:

Instead of indiscriminately adding any videos, I suggest a "map of the now" feature. Maps eligible for this have to be nearly finished... I'm talking RC, or at the very least a very mature beta.

At the staff's discretion, a map would be chosen to be featured on the front page (and youtube channel) for no less than a month, for it's high quality. The featured map would have a video made on it.

The above would also be valid for contest winners.

Good way to promote quality? Trade off for publicity, which in turn generates free publicity towards Tf2maps.net.

Because it's only semi-official. They video creators themselves are making videos of whatever maps they feel like, and the official TF2M channel is just posting them. It's very easy to dismiss such questions under those circumstances. All it comes down to is "they do it out of their own free time because they like to"

Very good point Boojum Snark but do you mean that just any member who makes map vids would have them posted on the official channel and thats the end or will there be some sort of collaboration to make specific vids for contest winning maps and RC and mature beta maps on a sort of monthly bases?

Seriously, you are coming off as hyperactive over your idea. You seem to be reading way to much into every little thing anyone says. I said "would most likely be determined later" so clearly there is nothing going on now... you JUST posted it. (plus, any new thing the site does would be discussed and formalized amongst the staff, that's standard procedure)

Chill out. Calm down.

I think the channel should be staff-only, someone could make a sticky in tf2 discussions or something for people to post video links into for an upload to the channel. Also, I think only beta maps, or detailed alpha maps should be uploaded. I for one would be pretty frustrated if I had to sift through a hundred alpha maps in early dev to find the maps I want.

Also, I like the idea of frag videos too, those could attract additional attention. As for gameday videos, please don't upload every one, just the funny moments or awesome kill streaks. I'd take some hints from the 2Fort 2Furious videos :D

On the topic of videos, I'd be happy to edit anything with my medium knowledge of After Effects and Sony Vegas.

EDIT: Boojum has a point, this could use some cooling down. On that topic though, it's the fastest thread I've seen here.

Let the VIPs and whomever make their own account. Only use the TF2Maps account to allow people into the group and do high-level administrative stuff like event announcements, etc.

Use the access-control mechanisms which already exist rather than creating new ones.

How do they do it at the Machinima channel? That seems to work great, and only the staff can access the channel right?

IF this gets made I'd be happy to help with making vids and stuff. Slowly getting into it now after playing around with After Effects and Premiere for a while :)
