Whenever I work on a map, I do a really good job, then I find out I did something wrong (in this case, I carved a sphere, bad choice), and now it won't work, so then I have to go way back to a time where I didn't carve a sphere.

Even times when I delete the sphere, it still won't load the map, or it will work, but the lights won't...

What part of making a map do you hate the most?

Waiting an hour for the compile to finish only to discover your area portal is 1 unit too small and therefore causing a leak

In those cases allways make sure to check vbsp first. Even if you did the other parts you can still skip them when you open the processes tab when you do CTRL+ALT+DEL. Then just end the vvis and vrad process. Don't expect your map to work after that though (never tried it but i dont recommend it also)! You first need to fix the leak then and after that you can recompile again.

The part i hate most is discovering that 1 area just doesnt work and you have to redesign 50% of the map. (gladly i never had it for such a big part though, only for a small part)

Also, dont use carve as its known to destroy maps. clipping is much better

The best way is just to run VBSP with the -leaktest option, which halts the process and prevents VVIS or VRAD from running if a leak is found. (it still generates a pointfile first)

...yet another reason to not use the carve tool!

Welcome to mapping! Hunting down the stupid bugs is what we do. I've spent many days tweaking and fiddling with stuff just to fix a problem that was caused by the dumbest mistake. It is annoying, but you learn from it and hopefully don't repeat yourself.

Personally, I hate doing the initial entity setup stuff. I walked through the Payload tutorial step by step and it took me a tedious afternoon. I prefer doing the creative detailing part, but that is always the last step.

I hate building cubemaps. And then discovering a surface that didn't get included in the nearest cubemap--meaning I have to place one and then recompile with lighting again...

i hate having ideas that would make for nice games, but aren't really possible with the tools on hand. or making a cool map, but then forgetting to consider the abilities of the engie or the sniper.
oh and area portal leaks... especially when the point file comes out and stops in the middle of nowhere (usually cos the leak is due to a different areaportal :p)
