Optimizing 101, July 27 (European prime-time)

Apparently one actually needs the original map in order to view the demo. Since the example I use is a stripped-down version of a map I am still working on, I can't release it right now. With that in mind, I've decided to host this event a couplemore times for anyone who missed it. Hopefully more of our friends across the pond will be able to attend The event will be held July 27 starting at 12:00pm/1200 CST, which translates to 1800GMT+1. Hope to see you all there!

It will be recorded, just like the last one. Problem is nobody can view the recording w/out the original map file, which I don't plan to release for the reasons stated.

why wouldn't you use a globally released map? or create a test map and release it with that =/

I'd like to attend this if I can. I get the ideas of optimization but when it gets down the the specifics I get lost. I can only read that HL2 Map Editing Optimization guide so many times. >.< How does this work though, do we join the tf2maps.net server when the event starts or is this like some sort of webchat based meeting?

Not sure how the last one went, but will sv_cheats be turned on so things like mat_wireframe, +showbudget, mat_leafvis, and rdraw_portals can be used to easily demonstrate not only how to use them but to let people see their effects when they are being discussed?

I know there are concerns with it but other than mapping doesn't it only let people cheat (aka, see through walls, no clip) which don't matter during a discussions anyway.
(what I mean is that the server can't be hacked or something because it's turned on afaik)

Obviously I didn't know at the time that one needed the original map. As you say however, a quick example will be easy enough to create
