Models & Textures request sub-forum.

So me a SiniStaR were talking and he came up with the idea for a "Request" section of the forums. This would be a sub-forum in the Models & Textures section. That way it people could find models that are done and modelers looking for work would easy find stuff to do.

So do you guys think this is a good or bad idea?

Does this mean even now it's not a possibility? Personally, I feel that it would simply make the showcase for models and textures a bit more organized, as well as give new users the initiative to request for new models/textures if they are needed since it would be more welcoming to them if there was an area where you could specifically request for things. Lastly it would make people like myself and other people who want to help people with their requests for whatever reasons we may have.
Granted this site is and always will be mapping community first, but models and textures are big part of mapping and should be shown some love.:blushing: <-- yes blushing

I'll admit shooting it down. I'm not against the forum itself, i am against the clutter of another forum though that wouldn't be used.

If we have an abundance of members who are looking for a request forum and an abundance of modelers who are openly taking on work it seems like a shoe in, however ATM it feels like there is a decent amount of members looking for requests and maybe 1-2 modelers who are free enough to try it out.

I do really wish we had more modelers =)

I say a seperate forum for any requests would be good. I think seperation from showcase and requests is justified, making a subforum doesn't make sense, making a seperate forum for requests in general would be nice.

I'm actually a 3D-modeler first and foremost, mapping is just on the side. I think the request forum would be GREAT, in fact I clicked this post cuz I thought it WAS asking for models

I get frustrated with Hammer occasionally (read: all the time), and 3dsmax is my sanctuary from that...haha...so I would totally enjoy and help out via a requests forum.

It would be a nice thing to have, but, what I can for see is the current model/texture section becoming dead, bar a few people to are actually making models and stuff, then the requests forum, becoming littered with loads of threads requesting for help, but with no-one able to complete all of then.

DJive pretty much hit the nail on the head, we need more modellers and textures for a separate forum to really be qualified and work. Unless we do as Nine suggested, and just do one big request form which everything goes in, which I would prefer

A system where someone posts what they need, and a brief reasoning behind it, and a modeler simply browses the listing and if they are interested in the idea they simply send a private message and the ball gets rolling from there.

At any rate, requests for model ideas doesn't belong with actual WIP or completed models.

well ya it doesn't matter "where" it is, its matters if it "exists". If anything I think a location for a place to request would be up to the admins more than anything, and I agree that a sub-forum with completed stuff would create clutter in it's own way.

Would love to have this implemented. Would help separate the completed projects from the requests (in more then just a simple tag).

like the majority said, one place where the requests are saved, would be nice.
maybe just a sticky thread on top of the model/texture board ? with some simple rules (posting reference images, pics from the project it is meant to be for,...).
since some requests get more comments than actual models posted - kind a sad for the people who take their time and actually make content.

i mean, in the end, whatever you guys choose to try out. we can always switch back after 1 month or so, if it shouldn't work out in the end !
maybe more mappers will look into the forums then as well, when they don't have to browse through tons of threads, to find out, whether it includes actual models or just requests.

anyways, in the end, we can only find out

Now it's more than half.

I think this really needs to be done. Or if not, maybe a rule that request threads should go in the Mapping Questions & Discussion section instead.

Id like to come back to this topic, especially since there been a ton of requests in Model and Textures, and a reasonable amount of people working on these models/textures that I feel like such a request sub-forum or whatever would free the clutter in the forum and make a win/win situation. I mean people go there for models and requests, and it doesn't help when you see just several requests up because they are constantly being posted on. Secondly i've noticed that some people will post the final model in the same request thread, while this may not be a problem per say, but I can imagine some people not clicking the request thread because they DONT expect a model to be in there. Lastly, we had a poll in this very forum and "YES" won by a landslide yet nothing happened. So once again I (and several others) are requesting this!
