Every generic theme was taken so far and all I know how to do is generic stuff. Now I have to make a pathetic attempt to be creative. That's why I'm going for a city theme. Of course the terrain makes no sense in a city setting directly so instead it's going to be in the back alleys of the city. Blu will spawn going outside a shut down convenience store and will push there way towards Red's skyscraper. Which has missiles in it or something. So far all I've done is the store. Also I didn't get permission to use anything I have so far because there's a good chance I'll scrap this entirely due to complications of not knowing how to model at all.

Normally I wouldn't post with so little done but I need feedback more than ever so I can tell whether or not this thing's going to work or not. Worst comes to worst I may just scrap convenience store and go for "garage".

Also can we use swamp theme stuff or not.

City sounds interesting as a theme. What you might want to try though instead of back alleys would be a junkyard. That way you could reasonably have random fences and ground displacements that would seem out of place on a street. Might also cut down on the custom content...

Yeah as I was looking around I might also make it more of a construction site or industrial park type area. And believe me I tried to stay as far away from custom content as possible but there aren't many useful resources in the game for making a good store. Before I had the vending machine I tried making a freezer out of brushwork and it was horrible. Hell, I still hate those shelves. If anything those will be the factor that pushes me away from the store idea.

    EDIT

Finished up the other half of the spawn room.

The pyro sign might be going too far.

Then I wanted to make a building with a fire escape but couldn't find a place in the playable area for it, so I made one just outside the boundary.

Very creative take on it. I'm glad to see some other people are trying to space themselves from the rather overused desert themes. Quite a few people seem to feel that being risky and different could help them out towards the end, even if it does mean more work for themselves in the long run.

I think the junk yard theme could fit brilliantly. The displacements and the placement of the buildings that the TF2 Team have given us, really seems to suite a junk-yard theme. At least I think so.

I think you should go with it, but I do think that getting inside general convenience stores and shops maybe pushing it just a little too much. There's not much to work with in terms of textures and props, unless you feel like creating a fairly good sized chunk of new content. If you're going with the Junk-yard theme, you should totally have a crane in the surrounding unplayable areas, with large displacements of junk props. For instance sunken-in tires, barrels, perhaps even modify one of the TF2 car models that currently exist and give it a third skin option of a totally rusted paintwork.

Thinking about it, you could use Gravelpit as a rough guideline and compare your map to that, since it's similar in terms of the way you could blur the lines between the unplayable areas and combat zones. Like the large piles of gravel could be the trash with cranes behind the fences.

The fact it could be related to the industrialized themes, yet would still manage to retain a unique twist, that doesn't seem to have been used before, means you're not working on total alien ground. Yet at the same time, your work would still be viewed as a unique entry.

    Just some food for thought.

Don't worry, the convenience store spawn will be the only real "building" you go in. I just wanted a way to bridge the gap between the "city" and the back alleys/under construction/junkyard parts.

As for new content I'm willing to make new textures and overlays but I can't model at all.
