Lightmap shadows on displacement issues.

Recently I've been trying to learn how to add details and better scenery to maps in hammer. I noticed that displacements I make have much softer/diffused shadows compared to normal brushes. In this image you will notice the line where the displacement and the brush meet because of the baked shadow the goes across the border. Both the displacement and the brush are using a lightmap scale of 4, but the displacement doesn't allow for the same sharpness/darkness in the shadow. Does anyone know if it's possible to make the point where the brush and displacement meet less noticeable, especially when a shadow crosses it?

Nope. This is a significant enough issue that Valve made a point of fixing it in CSGO eventually. But in general, you should not be trying to join up displacements and non-displacements like that. Even with an improved lighting system, there would still be a seam between those shadows due to how Source cuts up lightmaps.
