Help!- Smoothing groups on custom model not working in Hammer

Thanks for any help, stumped on this one-

I'm simply trying to import a fairly low detail model, nothing too special. The problem is, my smoothing groups are not transferring over from 3DS Max to hammer...the export to SMD doesn't seem to keep them? Or do I need to enable so hidden checky-boxy to allow them on the custom model, once in Hammer?

Or perhaps something completely different? The smoothing is DEFINITLY not working at all, not even a bit, and it looks terrible

I've only imported a few models into Hammer so far, but haven't had any issues with smoothing groups. They show as intended.

I don't think there's a check box on the importer. The only thing I can think of is that maybe your collision models don't have properly assigned smooth groups and that does something (shouldn't as it's a seperately exported model).

How are you applying smooth groups, any pics?

typical hammer issue of mine (although likely just human error...)
