See this thread for Gaming Night VI: http://tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=1192

Poll WILL be considered closed Feb 28, 2008 @ 5:00 PM EST. This is to give the server admin(s) time to upload and prepare files if March 1st is chosen.

Gaming Night IV recap:
  • Delayed start that suffered from the usual mayhem added to by the fact that there was confusion surrounding the server.
  • Pkunk pulled through and uploaded the maps to her server and we were able to get in several good hours of playing / testing.
  • I hate you all for not making it more fun for engineers.
  • Being on the losing team sucks, maybe utilize a team scrambler server mod after each win?
Gaming Night V:
When:
  • March 1st AND 8th
  • 1:00 PM PST, 4:00 PM EST, 9:00 PM GMT
Where:
  • TF2Maps.net Official Server: 69.12.25.43:27015
  • Possibly Youme's server
    • Why? Its based in the UK for all you crazies over the Atlantic.
  • Why Two choices? Well, two possible days.... Two servers.... Maybe we do an alternating one week on one, one week on the other. Maybe we do both at the same time? Maybe dont use Youme's at all. I think we are fine with just the TF2Maps.net server, but I live in the US fairly close to it.
What Maps:
  1. If you are submitting a map, please do one of the following:
    1. Include a link to a publicly released version
    2. If there is no publicly released version send either me or DrPepper a forum PM (or contact me on steam) containing a link to a version that we can post onto the server.
  2. *note* we will most likely NOT have a password on the server so any maps submitted can still be download by the general public and there is a chance they might like it enough to try and post it to the internet without first asking permission. Keep this in mind.
My list was come up with by just going over the Maps section and looking for maps I want to play. I tossed in my two favorite Valve maps just because I like them and it might bring some new blood onto the server while we have them up. This is my reccomended list for this weekend at least. After this weekends game night I will clear the list and start a new one for next weekend.

Server Config Suggestion / Request:
Not sure if this is how its already set up, but if not here is what I think would be a good idea, feel free to add comments, this section will be closed to changes after Thursday (whether or not it gets implemented is up to DrPepper / Youme):As always, as information changes I will be updating this post.
  • Ok, scratch most of this list, Mainly I think it would be nice to do a team scramble on each new round to keep one team from being repeatedly steamrolled. I was getting aggravated last game day because I was on the losing side....

Why not make every Saturday a gaming night?

I'm not sure about having fixed round and time limits for how long each map is played, as different game types take longer than others.

I believe the console command "mp_scrambleteams" would work for what you want?

Damn you need to learn how to use the edit button!

I can make both days, wich means I can have my server running the rotation both days.

i shall not be over taken in post count :p

uh, no I think I missed it, ahh well, looks like your post count is doomed to be < mine

Pseudo: thats sort of what I want to do with my server, have a 'normal rotation' on most of the time then for one day/evening a week swap the rotation to a TF2maps.net rotation (made with just maps found here)

Regarding team scrambling: I would only do it every other round on attack/defend maps. Being able to go a round both as attacking and defending with the same team helps determine if the ease/difficulty of assaulting a point is due to the map design or due to the team skill level.

Regarding switching maps after two rounds: it'd be better to just have a shorter server map time limit than do it based on number of rounds, as some maps will have shorter or longer rounds than others.

Hmm It sounds like we should do what we did last time. Have a person online that has the ability to force a mapchange after we feel we have tested the map enough and that can do a team scramble manually on certain maps when the rotation changes.

I wish I knew more about TF2 / Steam servers

Since yall are losers and only one map got submitted for this weekend I made up my own list of maps I want to play. HAH. So, if Youme and DrPepper want to upload the maps to the respective servers and set the rotation then that would be splendid.

From the looks of the voting we are split even with 11 people able to make it on each respective day and those are just the people that voted (lazy arse holes that did not vote should be hung). In any case I am sure once we get some people on the server random pub people will join filling out our ranks.

I dropped a couple Valve maps into the rotation for a couple reasons. A. I like them. B. It will help draw in more people. C. It is sometimes good to play on a map everyone knows.

Also, for Youme if you do plan on having your server available for our European friends, I would suggest renaming your server for the day (if possible) to something like, "TF2Maps.net European Server". Just a suggestion but it will help promote the group.

Finally for the people updating the servers don't forget to change the welcome message to list the rotation.

I think that is it, I will change the chat loggers message to redirect people to this thread.
